A “booffet of blasphemy” (as he pronounced it) is how Mike described THIS IS THE END starring Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, James Franco, Jonah Hill and friends. If you’ve seen the movie, have listened to our show and know Mike, then you know why he described it that way. Without spoiling it too much I’ll simply say that Satan is packin’ a big one. Blasphemy seems to be a theme these days over at Microsoft. Their ill-received Xbox One continues to get bashed and scrutinized from every possible angle. And rightfully so. It seems each week a new feature whose sole function is to annoy and rip us off gets revealed. And then they’ve got some guy giving quotes to a major gaming site basically telling people if you don’t like the new product, tough shit, go with the old one then. Really? Instead of listening to your prime customer base, you’re going to tell them to fuck off and not buy your next product meant for them? Most companies might call that blasphemy. Meanwhile Sony reveled in the demise of the mighty console. Laughing and undercutting its price point as the empire Microsoft accidentally fell into crumbles like Metropolis in the new MAN OF STEEL movie, which by the way, we saw and review along with THIS IS THE END on today’s show. For the first time in a long time Apple wasn’t the ‘talk of the town’ so to speak during their WWDC conference. Instead, it was overshadowed by the whole Xbox One vs PS4 fiasco. Don’t worry though, we make time to cover both. Once E3 is out of the way we get into what Apple is working on. They’ve got an update to OSX and along with a few new features, they’re dumping the feline designations in place of favorite spots in California. The first being OSX Mavericks, named after a prime surfing spot in northern Cali. They also unveiled iTunes Radio, a competitor to Pandora and Spotify. But what really caught my attention was the new Mac Pro desktop. This long neglected branch of the Apple product tree has undergone a radical makeover. It looks like a black, shiny coffee grinder. At an eighth the size of the previous Mac Pro its cylindrical design is meant to keep it cool as Apple has designed a new thermal core to chill the powerful hardware inside. The last update to the desktop brought complaints that there weren’t enough expansion slots or a Blu-ray drive. Taking a cue from Microsoft, those complaints went highly ignored as this version has NO expansion slots or optical drive at all. There are external devices that’ll be available, but should it have to be that way? And speaking of blasphemy, I should note that this is the first Who Asked You? to be powered by a Mac. I’ve made the leap from Windows… sort of… although the computer is from Apple, it was booted into Windows 7 for the sake of the show due to a software limitation on the OSX side which I’m trying to get squared away before next week. We end this week’s program with a Chase’s Chance Upon. If you’ve never heard of the Dollar Shave Club, allow me to shave off a few facts about it. It’s a fairly new service in which guys can pay as little as a dollar a month, plus shipping, and automatically get fresh razors delivered to their home. I don’t use the service, but I already knew of it and what I chanced upon was a new product they’re offering, buttwipes for men. I can’t believe we even had time to talk about the wet wipes for your ass… but then again, a Who Asked You? without talk of number two? Well, that would just be… blasphemy!
