Episode 256: Sometimes, Your God-Sent Helpers Do Not Look Like One

(II King 5) Sometimes, your God-sent helpers do not look like one. They do not look like someone or people who can or will help you so there is need to keep reminding ourselves not to despise anyone. In the case of Namaan, it was his wife’s maid who was captured during one of raiding expeditions against Israel. “Naaman was general of the army under the king of Aram. He was important to his master, who held him in the highest esteem because it was by him that God had given victory to Aram. Naaman was a truly great man, but he was afflicted with a grievous skin disease called leprosy. When the new Isrealite maid noticed what her mistress’ husband was battling with, “One day she said to her mistress, “…if only my master could meet the prophet of Samaria, he would be healed of his skin disease.” Naaman did not hesitate! He went straight to his master- king of Aram, and reported what the Israelite maid had said. The king helped Naanan with letter of introduction and gifts, in order to have prophet Elisha introduced to him. Eventually through the help of prophet Elisha, he was healed. Although he was initially furious because prophet Elisha deflated his pride by not coming out physically to see him. Coupled with that, he was instructed to go bathe in river Jordan. He preferred their own river which to him is better than river Jordan. The good news was that, he swallowed his pride after his servant advised him to do what he was instructed. He swallowed his pride. “So he went down and dipped seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.” ‭‭II Kings‬ ‭5:14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ Remember that sometimes, your God-sent helpers will not look like one you are trying to figure out to help you. They do not look like someone or people who can or will help you so there is need to keep reminding ourselves not to despise anyone as we remind ourselves of God’s Word in 1 Peter‬ ‭2:17‬ ‭that says “Show proper respect to everyone”
