Episode 257 - Fences

August Wilson's posthumous screenplay is faithful to the monologue-driven staging of his own Pulitzer prize-winning masterwork.  The story of an African-American family in 1950's-era Pittsburgh succeeds on many levels, due primarily to the acting and Wilson's words.  Phil felt that the direction didn't bring the play into the cinema enough, while Andrew applauded it for maintaining the integrity of the original theatrical production.  Viola Davis recently took home a Golden Globe for her portrayal of a woman who suffers because of her husband's indiscretions, but still carries on.   You can download the podcast here by right-clicking on the hypertext link and choosing "save as", or you can use the convenient player attached to this post.
