In this long-awaited and long overdue NHL Draft recap, Joey breaks down the top 10 picks of the 2022 NHL Draft with background information and key statistics behind each selection (0:13-12:56). Slovakian star forward Juraj Slafkovsky was selected with the first overall pick by the Montreal Canadiens (0:21) and although it was a surprise to many, Joey explains why he believes Slafkovsky was the right choice by Montreal general manager Kent Hughes (2:20). In addition to that, Joey highlights his winners (12:56-22:34) and losers (22:35-23:32) of the NHL Draft, which include strong drafts by the Buffalo Sabres, Seattle Kraken, and the Canadiens. He breaks down all of his steals of the draft with seven players who he believes were hidden gems (23:33-31:52).Following that, Joey discusses how historic of an NHL Draft it was for Northeastern University’s hockey program (31:53-39:48), which had seven commits/players drafted. Not only did Northeastern break its school record of five selections in a single draft from 1985, but the Huskies also led all of college hockey with seven selected players this year. At the end, he recaps how many Americans were drafted and points out that Massachusetts was tied with Minnesota for most players drafted from a single state in this year’s draft with nine (40:31).
