Episode 26: Accountability vs. Legalism: When Church Discipline Goes Wrong

Accountability is biblical. Legalism is dangerous. And the line between them is thinner than most churches want to admit. In this episode we dig into Matthew 18, the process Jesus gave for handling sin in the church, and ask the hard question: how did something so clearly designed for restoration become one of the primary sources of church hurt in people's lives? We talk about what healthy correction actually looks like, what spiritual abuse actually is, and how to recognize the difference when you are in the middle of it and your emotions are loud and your leadership is confident and you are not sure who to trust. We bring our three different church backgrounds into the conversation and we do not pretend any of our traditions has a clean record on this.  We just love digging into the Word and seeing what He says.
