Episode 26 - David Nichtern

from Love Is The Author · host Jaymee Carpenter

David Nichtern is the Founder and CEO of Dharma Moon, a senior Buddhist teacher and meditation practitioner who was one of the initial American students of Tibetan Buddhist meditation master Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. He's an accomplished musician/composer who went from being in a bluegrass band with Jerry Garcia to making his mark as a songwriter with a legit 1970's hit ("Midnight At The Oasis") produced by music industry icon Lenny Waronker. As a guitarist he's played with Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon, and produced multiple records for and toured with Krishna Das as his guitarist for decades. He's also the critically acclaimed author of Creativity, Spirituality & Making A Buck, is a beloved fixture of The Duncan Trussell Family Hour podcast (and notably Duncan's meditation teacher), who was immortalized as an animated character on The Midnight Gospel (Netflix). Sparks fly for 90 minutes during Jaymee and David's first discussion. The two nerd out and riff on everything from uncommon Tibetan Buddhist practices and  teachings, to nostalgia for the music scene in Los Angeles's in the 1970's. David offers a window into his role at Dharma Moon as a mentor, meditation instructor and his passion for training future Dharma teachers, and Jaymee introduces himself by sharing some of the legendary stories of his spiritual unfoldment.   (upcoming) DHARMA MOON TEACHER TRAINING (march 3 - June 4th) : https://bit.ly/3meNZdK (upcoming) DHARMA MOON INTRO to MINDFULNESS COURSE (march 3rd-5th): https://www.dharmamoon.com/mindfulness-meditation-teacher-training DAVID'S BOOKS: https://www.dharmamoon.com/books DAVID/INSTAGRAM: @david_nichtern LOVE IS THE AUTHOR PODCAST: produced, edited, and hosted by Jaymee Carpenter.
