Episode 26 - Tombstone (1:39:55)

from Actual Anarchy Podcast - AnCap Movie Reviews from a Rothbardian Perspective · host Actual Anarchy

Let's talk Tombstone and the not so wild west. What else is wrong about the opening narration by Robert Mitchum? Kurt Russell is a libertarian! Anybody catch the "Equal Pay for Equal Work" signage? Disequlibrium of violence (bad guys kill, no big deal; good guy kills one and is all sentimental - at first). Great quotes in this movie - an example of "parts greater than the whole" movie. Our friend Kenny the Wizard from the Wizardly Wisdom Podcast and LibertarianNerds.com joins us for a raucous and weaving discussion about many things related to (and not even related) to this now classic Western. You can check out more of Kenny's works here: www.LibertarianNerds.com www.WalterBlock.com And now some background on Tombstone from the Googs: Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russell) and his brothers, Morgan (Bill Paxton) and Virgil (Sam Elliott), have left their gunslinger ways behind them to settle down and start a business in the town of Tombstone, Ariz. While they aren't looking to find trouble, trouble soon finds them when they become targets of the ruthless Cowboy gang. Now, together with Wyatt's best friend, Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer), the brothers pick up their guns once more to restore order to a lawless land. For show notes and more, please visit: www.actualanarchy.com/26 Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/AnarchoCapitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter. We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film. The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film. We publish new episodes on Sunday just in time for your Monday commute; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics). Thank you for listening and for checking out our show notes page.  If you can do us a favor and subscribe on Apple Podcasts and YouTube.  Give us a comment, rating, share, etc...
