EPISODE 260 - Dennis Shoots The Mixer

What a fun filled adventure today’s show unintentionally became. Back on August 8th, 2011 we had an equipment failure for the first time in the history of the show. It happened seconds before we went live. So I guess technically, it didn’t happen during the show, but I was scrambling to swap out a now dead microphone during the show. The guys did an excellent job stretching while I was away from my post. This time around, the problem occurs with the mixer. For those who may not know, an audio mixer handles all of the various audio sources of a show. All of the mics, sound effect and music are piped into a console with tons of knobs and the volume of each thing can be controlled separately. Plug your ears at 38:45, because that’s when Dennis kills our last remaining channel on our old mixer we are using as a backup while the new one is in the shop! What’s funny is the death of the channel happens when Dennis plays the gunshot sound. How appropriate. In a single, silenced gunshot, Dennis kills the last standing line input on a board I’ve dubbed ol’ Bessy. But breaking gear we can’t afford to replace isn’t the only thing going on with us. We’ve had a busy week. We spend the first half of the show bringing you up-to-date on what’s been going on. We saw two classic movies recently. First was the free midnight movie put on by local Vegas comic shop, Maximum Comics and AMC Theaters. They showed BETTER OFF DEAD starring John Cusack. A film he apparently doesn’t want to be associated with. That’s too bad, because it’s pretty damn funny. Cinemark is continuing their Classic Series screenings with GHOSTBUSTERS. We went and saw it Sunday before the webcast and they’ll be doing another showing Wednesday if you missed it. It’s even the theme behind this week’s intro. If you’ve got any fond memories of either of these flicks, shoot us an E-Mail or voice message. The Presidents of the United States put on a free concert here in Vegas and Charlie went to it. He fills us in on that and we talk about the Presidents as a band in general. I spent a night out with CrazyJay and his crew at the Anthony Cools hypnosis show. It’s interesting to see how the power of suggestion can bring out the raunchy side of people. Tune in and hear about just some of the X-rated behavior I saw on stage. Bear in mind, nobody got naked and nobody got groped by another person. Instead, they molested a chair! I also ate at Texas de Brazil for the first time last Tuesday. Man oh man was it good. I’m not one of those super carnivores that has to have meat with every meal. In fact, I’m not a huge fan of steak and don’t like pork chops at all. But this place was amazing. I ate more red meat in an hour than I have in the past five years. Along with that, I had garlic mashed potatoes, Brazilian cheese bread and a couple of glasses of Sangria. And the meal ended with one of the greatest slices of pie I’ve ever had along side a tasty cup of Joe. We were treated to dinner by some clients/friends. The place is a little spendy, but well worth it. It’s all you can eat and what you eat is simply delicious. So there you go, our cancelled ON THE MENU podcast makes a brief return. Are we do for a SCARFACE update? That’s a question we’re asking today as news that David Yates may become the director of a reboot surfaces. If his name sounds familiar it might be because he directed the last four HARRY POTTER features. As you can imagine we start imagining what it’d be like if Yates just uses all the Potter actors and locations for his SCARFACE. Something else we’re wondering is whether clothing with a celebrity’s name on it is worth more? The answer to that is NO. ABSOLUTELY NOT. Nobody told that to the bozos who bought out Kanye West’s line of lackluster livery. He’s got a hoodie without sleeves, skinny jeans and even a plain white T-Shirt that has a retail price of $120! And it’s all sold out! Who in the fuck would pay $120 for a white, cotton T-Shirt?!?!? It’s Mike’s birthday next Saturday, but he’s not the only one in celebration. You remember the “Goosebumps” books from Scholastic? If you went to elementary and middle school during the 90s, you’d better answer ‘yes’ to that question. It just turned 21-years-old this past month. R.L. Stine cranked out 62 of these petrifying paperbacks and since its debut back in July of 1992, 350-million copies of “Goosebumps” tales in dozens of languages have been sold. Not to mention the syndicated TV series that ran for four years. Lets all take a birthday shot for the book report fodder who’s now old enough to legally drink. We spend the final minutes of the show talking about Percy Jackson and proving Jabari wrong. Mr. Tiffith is sometimes referred to as “Wikibari” as he’s a wealth of nonsensical knowledge relating to just about everything imaginable. He made the claim that Percy Jackson came before Harry Potter. He was wrong. And we prove it live on-the-air. Thank goodness no other channels on the mixer burned out beforehand. Since it’s Mike’s birthday next Saturday, we are pre-recording an episode for you. That means we won’t be live on ErrorFM and Rocking Comedy Radio Sunday.
