EPISODE 261 - Eat My Jif

from Who Asked You? · host Chase Shumway

One of the problems with recording a topical show ahead of time is that the week it’s sitting on the shelf waiting to be posted, an update to a story on that show can happen. Such is the case here. One of the items on our rundown is an article from London about a genetically engineered hamburger. Using stem cells from a cow, scientists ‘grew’ some beef in a laboratory, mushed it together with a little genetically engineered fat and had themselves a patent-pending-patty. The research was funded by an anonymous millionaire (who has now been identified as Sergey Brin, the founder of Google) and at the time we recorded this show (Sunday, August 4th) it was believed he would be the first one to try it. The idea being to promote a possible alternative meat source since some are predicting we will double our meat consumption in the next 50-years. Well this past week the burger was cooked on a live Internet video stream and a panel of professional chefs tried it rating its taste as basically, ‘meh’. They felt it lacked salt and fat. What it didn’t lack was creepiness. Ahead of this story though we kill some time reading a random IMDb review of THE BIG WEDDING which stars Robert De Niro and Katherine Heigl. Don’t ask why. We couldn’t tell you. Along the way we start talking about peanut butter. As many food conversations and stories as we’ve had on this show, we’ve never covered the topic of our favorite pea-nutty spreads. Dennis is confused as to why I like all-natural peanut butter. And he’s confused why he himself, bought Jif instead of his usual brand, Peter Pan. We break down the fine points of what makes a good and bad peanut butter and eventually Jabari ends up with Dennis’ jar of Jif to take home and enjoy. There could be a DEXTER spin-off. Nobody on the Who Asked You? Crew is a bigger fan of the show that Dennis, but this news doesn’t sit well with him as he thinks this (the final season) has jumped the shark. Or in Dexter’s case, murdered it. What’s more, is that the main character of the proposed spin-off is Dexter’s sister Debra. You’ll hear more about why this is a terrible idea on today’s show. Clive Palmer, that Australian billionaire out to build a new Titanic is also working on a sort-of real life Jurassic Park. His dinosaurs are mechanical though and will be spread throughout his already existing resort. They’re being constructed in China, and several, including the T-Rex are scheduled for delivery in the coming weeks. This is actually the plot for JURASSIC PARK 4. Robot dinos run amok when their AI becomes too smart and decides to take out the humans… starring a shirtless Ryan Reynolds. And we’re long overdue for some dick stories. We’ve got two of them starting with a guy who was just trying to take a number-two. The Israeli man was unaware that a snake was hanging out in the toilet bowl when he sat down to pinch one off. Feeling threatened by what we can only imagine the snake thought was another rival serpent, the creature bit the guy’s dick. A painful blumpkin courtesy of the wild kingdom. Luckily the snake wasn’t venomous and doctor’s say the man will recover. Although, he may have a scar and a helluva story to go with it. It’s a good thing that guy wasn’t competing in an unusual New York contest. The swelling would’ve likely cost him a victory at a small penis contest a Buskwick, NY bar held recently. Six contestants made the claim that they had the tiniest tallywacker but in the end only one could claim… victory? Listen in to find out who.
