City of ZuckburgThis week Dennis has come down with a pretty bad sinus infection so he’s out and sitting in for him is musician extraordinaire, wonkknow. Who also happens to be the host of a podcast called, “Grayarea”, which happens to be co-hosted by our own Charlie “The Cheese” DeLong. Quite the tapestry we’ve got here. I mention this now because I may forget later, as I did in the show. You’ll hear Charlie throw in a brief plug right at the end of today’s episode. As I was putting the final touches on today’s rundown I ran across some interesting poll results. No, I’m not talking about our We Ask You Poll, but rather one conducted by Public Policy Polling. They asked Americans what they thought of Congress since the government shutdown and the list of things Americans think more highly of than our lawmakers is both NOT surprising and hilarious. Boba Fett is one of the more mysterious characters in STAR WARS. He’s a favorite amongst fans and quite arguably the best bounty hunter in the galaxy far far away. We’ve got a listener E-Mail this week with a surprising factoid about where Lucas was originally going with the character. You’ll hear all about it and we share our thoughts on it. We return for a few to the Who Asked You? Cafe not only to read last week’s poll results regarding that hamburger with the communion wafer on it, but to tell you about the latest, pointless pastry mash up thanks to Starbucks called the Duffin. You’ll wanna ‘eat up’ the details on this one. Over 900 episodes of DR. WHO aren’t enough. Fans of the long-running series want more! And they’re about to get them. But not just in the form of a new season — or series if you’re in the UK or Australia. The BBC says several old episodes of DR. WHO thought to be lost have been recovered. It’s unknown at this point how many episodes were found, but it’s estimated there are around 100 missing right now. Many of the original broadcast tapes were destroyed by the BBC back in the day, but international copies sent to other countries for airing are still floating about. So stay tuned Who-fans, you’ve got some long-lost vintage episodes coming soon. Think of the Ecto-1A as a Samsung Galaxy S IV to the S III, or an iPhone 5 to the 4S. If you don’t know what the Ecto-1A is, please leave this site now……. just kidding. I’ll explain. It’s the ol’ hearse with all the gadgets attached to the top that the Ghostbusters used to cruise around in. It’s the update seen in GHOSTBUSTERS II to the original Ecto-1 used in the first film. Not a huge difference between the two other than a few modifications and an updated ghost logo. However, the cars’ lives post film have been dramatically different. The first car got fully restored on Sony Pictures’ dime and is making the convention circuit these days. It’s replacement hasn’t been so lucky. It sits, rotting and pretty damaged in a parking lot at the studio’s prop warehouse. An intrepid group of fans found it, photographed it and are hoping to buy it from Sony Pictures. They need our help though. We explain on today’s show. We bring you an update on a story we brought you, briefly, back in 2009. It was on episode 88, which back then, we weren’t titling them yet. It now has a title thanks to hindsight in today’s story. Hasbro and Relativity Media had been planning to make a STRETCH ARMSTRONG movie. The first attempt was by Universal back in 2008. It was supposed to star one of those TWILIGHT dudes, but the studio dropped it. Then Relativity picked it up and planned to release it next year. Now, that ain’t happening either! With this new information I dub episode 88, “That’s A Stretch”. We’ll try and get around to naming the other 105 untitled shows someday. We’ve also got an update on GRAND THEFT AUTO V. The game has broken a number of Guinness World Records. It’s made a metric fuck-ton of money. We tell you how much later in the show. And lastly, Mark Zuckerberg stuck it to a real estate developer after hearing the developer wanted to use the social media guru as a marketing ploy. I guess if you live next door to the CEO of Facebook, you can tell a potential buyer that and it will make the deal more enticing? Frankly, I couldn’t care less. It’s a pretty fancy neighborhood. If I’m about to drop a few mill for a place… I think there’s a number of other things on my mind besides which dot-com’er is across the street. Anyway, Zuckerberg apparently didn’t like being used as a sales tool so he bought four houses around his and is leasing them back to their current residents. What he’s not telling us is he’s secretly building a Facebook city. The town will have no privacy, curtains will be illegal and part of your job — no matter where you work — will be to take pictures of what you’re having for dinner and to physically poke people. And don’t be surprised when your mailman delivers nothing but invites to parties you don’t want to attend and mobster and farming games you don’t want to play. Your best bet, if you move there, will be to watch TV. The local stations will play nothing but images and memes pulled from Reddit back-to-back all day.
