EPISODE 269 - Wift Leights
from Who Asked You? · host Chase Shumway
Pepperoni and Sausage vs. Pepperoni and BaconWe are officially starting our 6th year on the Interwebs with this episode. It’s our anniversary and per these milestone shows, we forgo the rundown and wing it for the entire hour. You’d think after all these years we’d run out of stuff to talk about, but that’s never going to happen. Because I don’t know what will come up on these special editions, the Show Links are always assembled after the show. While I was putting them together I was reminded of one of the main rules of podcasting: Find a niche subject for your show to focus on. In other words, do a show specifically about a single thing, knitting, video games, hydro-electric technology, home improvement, etc. We here at Who Asked You? do not follow this formula… never have. Every episode is a mixed bag of the ridiculous, the astonishing, the hilarious, the immature and often times the pornographic. We’ll always find a way to talk about STAR TREK or THE SIMPSONS. It’s inevitable someone will bring up pooping. And we dis companies we hate, sealing the deal of never having them sponsor our show in the event it becomes insanely popular. Not that we’d want companies we hate to sponsor us anyway… oh hell, who am I kidding? I’ll take money from any of them. Having such a random show like this is an SEO nightmare. If you don’t know what SEO is kids, use the Google. It certainly doesn’t help that our keywords and meta tags range from Michael Bay to the Squatty Potty. Or that our episode titles are often quirky and bizarre to say the least. Just look at the one for this post! And notice the image doesn’t even have anything to do with it! SEO… who needs it? So, here we are… six years down the road, slowly but surely building our audience. For the few of you who probably read these ‘write-ups’ I do for each episode, you know that I usually use the space to explain what’s coming up on each one. This time I thought I’d reflect on our years of auditory service instead. Look at the Show Links and you’ll get an idea of the crazy mixed bag of conversation we came up with this time around. We spend a good 15-minutes ordering pizza during the show and arguing over toppings. Back on episode 131 titled, “Dinner With The Guys” we spared you the details and ordered pizza minutes before starting the show and it was delivered during it. If memory serves, that was also the very first time in our show’s history I forgot to press record, so some of that show is missing. Yeah, we’ve got a lotta good memories over these past six years. There was the time Mike spoiled the ending of SWEENEY TODD on-air, the time we gave Channing Tatum his “Dick Crisp” nickname after his penis was scolded on a movie set, or when we got added to the Zune Marketplace after four years of trying only for Microsoft to close it down a couple of weeks later and lets not forget our laugh-fest over Paula Deen’s Best Dishes tweets or just recently when one of our audio mixer’s channels blew up appropriately enough when Dennis played the gun shot sound effect. Yep… a mixed bag of good times for a show about everything. Maybe that’s OUR niche, a giant, gaping, unfocused niche. I doubt we’ll be narrowing it anytime soon. In fact, we’ll be doing quite the opposite with each new anniversary show. And lets not forget the upcoming 300th episode. And each hundredth to follow. Here’s to another six years!
