Episode 27: HONORABLE DISCHARGE - The Gift and Journey of Service

Service to God, service to country, and service to community are the way Jenn leads!She is a mother, wife, and a beacon of hope for our community.Jenn was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 22 while in the military. Her mom was diagnosed with T1D around the age of 50.Jenn went into the military at age 17 as a medical laboratory specialist with dreams of becoming a dentist but 5 years in she was medically discharged after receiving a T1D diagnosis.Today, we honor Jenn for her service, hence our title, Honorable Discharge!During her diagnosis her mood changed drastically. She was diagnosed by an Air Force Doctor after being misdiagnosed 3x.Reading through her discharge papers was discouraging to say the least. They read, "Unfit for duty," even though she was passing all PT tests and exams for her rank.With Diabetes she has gained professional confidence, especially with the trainings of preparation due to having diabetes. During our conversation, she talks about the trauma of this diagnosis and how diabetes is not all in one, nor created equal, and knowing that an A1c is a target or goal that needs to be met is also traumatic.In living with T1D there's always a concern with if something is diabetes related or 'normal.Mentions:MD Dogs (Diabetic Alert Dog Free Training)The combined photos in this cover share Jenn young, strong, and before being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.The beach picture shows her now, living with type 1 diabetes but still enjoying a healthy, happy day.
