EPISODE 279 - Sim, Sim, Salabim!

IMAGE CREDIT: L to R: IRNA, Hanna-BarberaWe complain a lot about how stupid and NOT real reality TV shows are, but there’s one show I ran across that peaked my interest and I bring it up at the top of today’s show. I’m a History Channel fan. The fact that they have not one but TWO channels brings a warmth to my heart. The fact that “History” is filling up more and more with non-historical programming like SWAMP PEOPLE, MOUNTAIN MEN and COUNTING CARS also warms my heart… but that’s because the contents of my stomach are rising into my throat wanting to projectile vomit out of my face. So it was refreshing to see a reality-like show based on something that actually has to do with history. THE CURSE OF OAK ISLAND is a sort of docuseries following two brothers as they try to solve the mystery of just what in the hell is under this little piece of land in Nova Scotia, Canada. If I went into all the details here, it’d probably be a blog entry so long it’d crash our website. You’ll hear many of the details on today’s show. The Lagina Brothers hope to find proof that there could be buried treasure in a very deep and mysterious hole dubbed the Money Pit. It was found back the 1790s by a group of teenagers on the island. Over time several treasure seekers have dug into the Money Pit hoping to find the Arc of the Covenant or just a shit-load of pirate booty. Those looking for a fortune were able to dig the hole 90-feet deep before what they believe is a booby trap filled the hole with sea water. Now, one of the brothers is trying to find proof that there is something there so that the other brother will spend a few million bucks to properly excavate the Money Pit. The show airs Sunday nights and is available to watch for free on History’s website. Check it out! Even if you’re not a history or treasure hunting buff, you’d probably still want to watch the Lagina Brothers dig in the mud than watch Fox rape the Batman cannon. The network has ordered a pilot titled, GOTHAM. It’ll focus on a young Commissioner Gordon and will have the same dark and gritty feel as the recent Chris Nolan movies. In the announcement we were told we’d see a young 12-year-old Bruce Wayne who in the final episode — however many seasons the show might run for — would dawn the cape and mask. We were also told we’d see young versions of many of the most popular villains in Gotham City. One listener in the chat room likened it to TEEN TITANS. Our guest host wonkknow, who was filling in for Jabari, made the point that DC has a pretty good track record with their TV shows sighting SMALLVILLE and The CW’s ARROW. Then Charlie threw out THE GRAYSONS… which actually never made it to the production stage, so DC’s record remains intact. At least until we see what happens with GOTHAM. Boba Fett, is without a doubt, one of the most popular STAR WARS characters. I’m beginning to think he may even be overshadowing Darth Vader. The rumor mill is churning that Disney has asked EPISODE VII writer, Lawrence Kasdan to take on a spin-off film focused on Fett. Kasdan’s idea would wipe the character’s background clean from the clone debacle Lucas created by opening the film with that man’s death and his killer taking not only his suit, but the Boba Fett name as well. This means a whole new origin story could be told. What do you think? With the 34th Razzie Awards nominees being announced last week it seemed appropriate once again to take a look at them and choose our “winners”. After all, our show is like an hour-long Razzie ceremony for life each week. I can’t imagine the late night, Chinese takeout-fueled arguments between Razzie staffers that must take place each year in the conference room. Just when you think Hollywood can’t do any worse, they outdo themselves the next year with even more silver screen slop. Hell, we argue on today’s show over who should win each category; can you imagine having to choose the nominees from all the garbage out there? I don’t know how they do it, but they did, and there is some tough competition this year. The Swiss Cheese Pervert in Philadelphia has been caught! For over a year some fat guy has been roaming the city with his phallus wrapped in fromage. He’s asked a number of women to jack him. And we’re not talking Monterey Jack either. He was recognized on a dating website too, telling at least two women there that he had a cheese fetish and liked how it felt having Swiss Cheese draped over his dick. Now it isn’t a crime to get a chubby over cheddar, but what is a crime is to drive around in public and approach women with your exposed junk in one had and a hunk of Swiss in the other. And that’s what he was arrested for. The only think that could possibly smell worse than that guy’s crotch is the dirtiest man on Earth. An 80-year-old Iranian was given the honor because he hasn’t bathed in over 60-years, lives in a hole in the ground and smokes animal shit.
