Episode # 284 Doctor Sleep with Sean Higgins and Lucy Buglass

Lucy Buglass (Tea-V-Time podcast) and Sean Higgins (The Sofa Cinema) return to Flixwatcher remotely to review Lucy’s choice Doctor Sleep. Doctor Sleep is the 2019 supernatural horror, written and directed by Mike Flanagan based on the 2013 Stephen King novel of the same name that is also the sequel to the hugely popular book and film The Shining. It stars Ewan McGregor as an adult Danny Torrance, who is now an alcoholic, traumatised by the incident at the Overlook Hotel in 1980 and still experiencing his psychic powers (the shining). He ends up working at a hospice and uses his shining to comfort dying patients and earns the nickname Doctor Sleep. Meanwhile, a group called the True Knots who feed on the ‘steam’ released from killing those who have the shinning, led by Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson), are kidnapping, torturing and killing children. During a killing by the True Knots a child with an extremely strong shine called Abra senses it and she telepathically alerts Danny to it. This also alerts Rose the Hat and it becomes a game of cat and mouse as Danny and Abra try to avoid capture by the True Knots. Coming in at a hefty two hours 32 minutes you have to be committed and most likely have seen or read The Shining to want to watch Doctor Sleep.
