Episode 29: Endometriosis and Dysmenorrhea

from The Re:pro Health Podcast · host University of Alberta Medical Students

Painful menstruation, otherwise known as dysmenorrhea, is a very common medical issue impacting women and young girls throughout their reproductive years. Today, we will be conversing with Dr. Kostov, a family practitioner in Edmonton, about the types of dysmenorrhea that exist, as well as what can be done to reduce pain and improve quality of life for women with this condition. We will also provide an overview of endometriosis, defined as the presence and growth of the uterine lining outside the uterus. Endometriosis can cause heavy, painful periods, as well as infertility and other medical complications. Dr. Kostov will outline how endometriosis is diagnosed, how it is managed, and special considerations to keep in mind (ex. pregnancy).
