Dr. Heldermon is an associate professor of medicine and breast cancer specialist in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at UF. In addition, he is a lysosomal storage disease specialist. He helped establish and directs the pediatric and adult multi-disciplinary lysosomal storage disease clinic at UF. He is an oncologist and researcher. He perform xenografts of breast cancers into mice to develop better breast cancer treatment approaches.His interest in breast cancer research is both clinical and academic. His laboratory is currently performing studies on patient-derived xenograft tumors in collaboration with several investigators at the University of Florida. These xenograft models were obtained from Dr. Alana Welm's laboratory and are well characterized with respect to expression levels of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, Her2, EGFR, and Her3, and tumor . He helped establish and direct the pediatric and adult multi-disciplinary lysosomal storage disease clinic at UF. I care for patients with these diseases and perform clinical trials of gene replacement, substrate reduction and enzyme replacement therapies.
