It moves through laws, money, land, media, institutions, and organized people. And Black communities have too often been encouraged to pursue each of these fronts separately.We're told to vote without building capital. Start businesses without securing political protection. Dominate culture without owning distribution. Organize movements without creating permanent institutions.That fragmentation weakens every victory.The title lyric this week comes from the song Police State by the Dead Prez — "I want to be free to live, able to have what I need to live-Bring the power back to the street where the people live". This does not mean abandoning electoral politics or government. It means reconnecting formal political and economic power to organized communities. The street provides the people, labor, votes, consumption, culture, and legitimacy that every institution ultimately depends on.The objective is not merely to gain access to power.
