Episode 296: Radical Shifts Conversation with Ben Lee

Catherine is here today with Ben Lee. Ben Lee is an award-winning singer and songwriter, producer, essential oils educator, entrepreneur, death midwife, father, husband and professional adventurer. In everything he does, he is a passionate believer in the infinite possibility inherent in the human mind and heart. Ben Lee began releasing albums at 14 years old with his punk band Noise Addict at the height of the underground music revolution of 1992. His teen-angst pop punk songs were immediately recognized and praised by artists such as Sonic Youth and the Beastie Boys, who both went on to mentor Ben and release his albums on their respective labels. He released his first acoustic solo album at 16 years old and has continued a solo career over almost a quarter of a decade that has spawned hits in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Spain and the Netherlands, and songs in commercials, films and TV shows leading to a large following in the US. He was won multiple ARIA awards, played the closing ceremony of the Melbourne Commonwealth Games and starred in “The Rage in Placid Lake” alongside Rose Byrne and Gary MacDonald. Over the last 20 years his music has become increasingly focussed on his spiritual path and the awakening of consciousness. He has used the pop song format to experiment and to continually find new ways to carry spiritual messages into mainstream culture through song. More recently he has been invited to speak on issues of creativity and spirituality and has begun to share his message of awakening, inner work and non-conformity in this medium. He has offered workshops and given talks on subjects such as “How to Die and Other Aspects of Being an Artist”, “What Would A New Artistic Culture Look Like?” and “Songwriting Towards Virtue”.
