Episode 3: The Record
from When Hate Hides Behind Love Hosted by Luz Ukay
Season One | Episode 3: The Record — The Road to Records, The Road to Homelessness The road to the records also led me to the road to homelessness. In this deeply personal third episode of When Hate Hides Behind Love, I revisit the events and experiences that transformed my life, taking me from my home in New York to an uncertain new beginning in Vermont. What began as an effort to document troubling encounters and seek answers became a journey through displacement, financial hardship, concerns about personal safety, and the struggle to rebuild a stable life for myself and my teenage son. Through personal recollections, recorded observations, and questions I believe deserve independent examination, I share the circumstances surrounding my relocation, the events that preceded it, and the emotional reality of finding myself without a permanent address. This episode explores the intersection of race, power, possession, personal freedom, and the pursuit of justice. I have records. I have questions. And I refuse to let homelessness define my story. The Record is a first-person account of resilience, motherhood, dignity, and the determination to be heard. Document. Question. Find the Truth.
