Episode 30: CAREGIVING: FACING ADVERSITY EVERY DAY

from The Survivor's Guide to Life · host Peter M. Bernstein, Phd

Caregivers serve their clients or loved ones in some of the most difficult circumstances of life. To avoid burnout, caregivers need to continually find new ways to cope and new sources of hope. Pitfalls can derail this process: trying to deny the situation, avoid or run away, or get back to the way things were. Caregivers do best when they recognize and embrace their own humanity and stay open to the changes they and their clients or loved ones are going through. Essential attitudes are to have realistic hope for good in the future, and the willingness to grow, gain in wisdom, and discover greater purpose and fulfillment.
