Episode 30: Gender as a Construct and Why We Don't Care (Do What You Want)

from No Boundaries: Black Girl Magic Edition with Anousha Nzume · host Anousha Nzume

Gender is a made-up construct that depends on where you were born in the world and who colonized whom. The strict idea of gender roles in the West has confined us to believing that there are only two genders. But in reality, there are biologically so many more than that! This is what we mean by gender doesn’t matter to us. Because it literally doesn’t. The Western way of thinking got it wrong anyway, and we really don’t care what gender anyone else wants to be. Do what you want! What we really think is weird is when people get infuriated over someone else’s gender expression. Like, who are you?? In this week’s episode, we’re talking about gender as a construct and why we don't care. Literally do what you want! But we’re not naive, we know that there are so many people out there, and much of society as a whole, that do care about how people express their genders and if they’re doing it “the right way.” So if you want to get a second opinion and see how the human idea of gender is incorrectly forced into two boxes, then tune in to this week’s episode to hear more! Enjoy!
