Episode 30: Youth Suicide Prevention in the United States

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. According to the World Health Organization, more than 700,000 people die due to suicide every year. Many more people think about or attempt suicide. It is the fourth leading cause of death among 15-29 year olds, and in the US, one person dies every 11 minutes from suicide. Discussing this sobering topic are two mental health experts Dr. Holly Wilcox and Dr. Michael Lindsey. Dr. Holly Wilcox is a Professor in the Department of Mental Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health with joint appointments in the Department of Health Policy and Management as well as the Johns Hopkins Schools of Medicine and Education. Dr. Michael A. Lindsey is Dean and Paulette Goddard Professor of Social Work at NYU Silver School of Social Work. Dr. Lindsey is a noted scholar in the fields of child and adolescent mental health.
