Episode 302: Me and My Mates versus the Zombie Apocalypse (2015)
from The Undead Symphony
Send us Fan MailThere is a comedy zombie boxed set, you may have seen it, you may know it. On it you will find three zombie comedies, the Christmas themed Stalled from the UK, we liked that one, I survived a zombie holocaust from New Zealand starring friend of the podcast Harley Neville, and this… Me and My Mates versus the Zombie Apocalypse from Australia. The premise?During the Australian zombie apocalypse, Darryl (played by Alex Williamson) - a mid-twenties telecom tradesman - and several of his co-workers get trapped in a telephone exchange. It is a comedy. But, what do we say, dear listeners, about comedy? That for a comedy to be funny the jokes have to land. And they do not always land. The trailer looks pretty low end. I am thinking Danny Dyer’s Dog House meets New Kids Nitro from the Netherlands. But lets find a review and see if we agree with it.It was shit. Not funnyThe constant running gag of Daryl wanting to be on roys cricket team – not funnyThe constant running gag of Daryl having thrush – not funnyThe running gag of Daryl’s tiny cricket bat – not funnyHitting women zombies and apologising, not funnyThe toolmaster multitool, not funnyDaryl confusing vampires and zombies, not funnyScript was poor, the acting was poor, Jim Jeffries, the main draw, just disappeared, it was like he thought, fuck it, let me die.Remember New Kids Nitro?3.5/10 by far the weakest of the 3 movies on that DVD. No way near as funny as I survived a zombie holocaust, and not as good or original as stalled, and that is set in a womens toilet. But it isn't the worst Australian zombie movie, that award goes to Zombie Brigade from 1988, which looked like it was made in 1978. This was just shit. No wonder Jim Jeffries got out of it half way through.Avoid. This sucked diarrhea through a bum's sweat sock.
