One day, I decided to tell him a story about Bella, a little girl who was just about his age when her Poppa died. When I finished the story, I asked him what he thought. His answer surprised me in a way I could never have imagined, and I realized that he was immediately comforted in just the way he needed. For decades, children and adults have shared with me their true stories, like Bella’s, of moments that felt too perfectly timed to be just a coincidence.
