Episode 308 - Getting REAL About Truthiness with Jodee

from Circle Up & Get REAL Podcast · host Circle Up and Get REAL Intro and Outro 2022

Stephen Colbert is finishing his run as a late night talk show host this week (tomorrow, to be exact). Before he took on this role, back in 2005 he was host of a political satire program called The Colbert Report, where he coined the term "truthiness." Truthiness is the belief or assertion that a particular statement is true based on the perceptions of some individuals, without regard to evidence, logic, intellectural examination, or fact.  While it was satire in 2005, I wonder how it plays out in our current times. I also talked today about learning. If learning = change, then if I haven't changed, I haven't learned. What might it be that prevents people from admitting they might not have had all the information when they formed an opinion? Something keeps us from changing our minds, which, then, points to our inability or unwillingness to change and grow. I mention John Miller's book and body of work on personal accountability, QBQ (www.qbq.com). I also mention Mandy Patinkin's version of "You Must Be Carefully Taught/Children Will Listen."
