Episode 31: Not Your Average Type One Gal

Today we invite you into the world of Khadija. Khadija was diagnosed with Congenital Hyperinsulinism. Her pancreas over produced insulin, yes over produced meaning it was making too much! At 4 mos old she got 95% of her pancreas removed. A pancreatomy. She used a a nasal feeding tube until 2 years old Over the years her 5% remaining pancreas produced insulin; similar to LADA or an extended honeymoon. This was up until she was 8 or 9 years old and was forced to begin insulin because her remaining pancreas no longer was producing insulin. From that day forward her life has been identical to someone living with type one diabetes. Her body still produces the remaining enzymes. Follow Khadijah on instagram
