Episode 31 - The Abyss

from Missing Frames: Catching up with Cinema · host The Nerd Party

Darren Moser (Ceti Alpha 3, Goodnight Moon) makes his first Missing Frames appearance to talk about his favorite film, a film Shawn has never seen. James Cameron's The Abyss. Released in summer 1989, The Abyss was considered a cinematic game changer thanks to its underwater photography and groundbreaking visual effects. It was also considered to be a nightmare to shoot by everyone involved in its production, Cameron included. (To this day, certain cast members refuse to discuss it.) Sadly, it didn't make much of an impact at the box office, barely recouping its production costs. To this day, it feels like the forgotten film in Cameron's filmography, especially considering its release was sandwiched between two of Cameron's best and biggest films, Aliens and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Shawn and Darren discuss why The Abyss deserves to be a part of the conversation and why it could be one of his best efforts.HOSTSShawn EastridgeDarren Moser
