Episode 311 | "A New 'Xbox Era'?"

from The DayOne Show | A Video Games Podcast · host DayOne

Is Xbox 'back'? The new CEO hasn't been around long, but she certainly appears to be making changes and updates at break-neck speed. Is she hell bent on restoring the Xbox brand to its former glory? We talk through all the big news this week in The DayOne Show Episode 311! As always, we begin the show with a look at the things most important to the team - video games! On that front, it's been another stellar week with some great releases for gamers to get really stuck into.Jesse took an extended look at what awaits Diablo fans in Lord of Hatred, a new expansion that drops next week, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He also has been checking out a trippy looking title called Tamashika, which is available now and looks kinda nuts! There's a Members Exclusive video available now if you want to take a look for yourself.Nick has continued his journey with Diana and Hugh in Capcom's fantastic Pragmata, and upon discovering there's a Amiibo available of the small android, immediately went ahead and bought it (because of course he did!)In my case, I've actually been dabbling in a ton of games throughout the course of this week. First up, I dropped my review of Tides of Tomorrow, out now on PC and consoles. It's a narrative adventure set in a dying world, and fans of the developer's previous work, Road 96, may want to take a look. I've also dabbled in Kiln, the super cool world of Dead as Disco, the addictive madness that is Vampire Crawlers, and a little indie delight called Oblitacrator. The lions share of my game time this week however has been with an upcoming Game Pass release, TerraTech Legion, a new bullet hell 'survivors-like' that sees you building and customising your vehicle on the fly to maximise damage output. It is pretty neat so far, and members can check our exclusive 45 minute deep dive video if they'd like a closer look before launch! Oh, and I also reviewed the new RIG R8 Spectre Pro HX - a new wireless gaming headset and basestation, available now and well worth a look! What a week! Outside of all our usual news coverage, it was Xbox once again driving headlines this week. First of all, we had the surprise reveal of a price drop for Xbox Game Pass and the removal of Call of Duty as a Day One release for future titles, instead coming along the following holiday. Then, a further blog post later in the week, penned by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma and CCO Matt Booty revealed the great news that 'Microsoft Gaming' is dead, as they laid out their master plan to bring Xbox back to its former glory. Naturally, Xbox dominates the discussion this week. One other noteworthy item? Ubisoft finally revealed Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced and it looks fantastic (I am very excited). All this and more, along with your community questions in the DayOne Show Episode 311!
