Episode 312: Do Catholic couples need a valid "excuse" to be intimate?

It was once held that the marital act was essentially evil, and should only be done if there was a valid excuse (i.e. procreation or relief of concupiscence). Is that still true, and if not, has the Church formally rejected the idea?
