Episode 313 | "Suddenly, Starfox Returned"

from The DayOne Show | A Video Games Podcast · host DayOne

An absolutely bonkers week in video games! Outside of some fantastic game releases, there's plenty of news from all three platform holders to dig into in The DayOne Show Episode 313!As per usual, we kick off the show talking about all the different games we've played this week, and where better to start than with the fantastic Mixtape! It's one of the best games of the year, and we awarded top marks. Despite the positive reception, Twitter has been perfectly normal about it, so that's nice to see.We also covered narrative adventure game 'WILL: Follow the Light' that puts you in the shoes of a lighthouse keeper who sets off in search of his family. It looks pretty enough, but it didn't quite stick the landing, which is a shame. It's certainly been very musically themed this week, and Early Access release Dead as Disco is definitely on it's way to being a smash hit. You play as Charlie Disco, back from the dead and seeking out his former band mates to find out just why he died in the first place, and whether they had anything to do with it. How is that achieved? With awesome showdown battles across different genres of music as you fight to the beat. Very cool! There's other games to check out of course - our review for Wax Heads is available, putting you in the shoes of a record store owner as you manage customers and relationships or Priest Simulator: Vampire Show which is, well... pretty bonkers. There's a little something for everyone when it comes to news this week! On the Xbox side of the fence, more leadership changes rolled out. While many saw CoreAI staff move into the Xbox camp, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma also straight up cancelled 'Copilot for Gaming'. So that's good! Elsewhere, Call of Duty confirmed that the next release in the franchise will not be releasing on PlayStation 4, and presumably Xbox One, meaning that the first person shooter series will finally be leaving last-gen consoles behind. We also saw Game Pass announce their first wave of games for May and they put on a great show for Stranger Than Heaven, which has all of us interested in playing it.PlayStation released their latest financial quarterly results, with a large writedown for legendary studio Bungie, which is a bit embarassing. They're also 'all in' on AI, so it has been a little fun seeing the mental gymnastics on display to excuse that one away. On the Nintendo front, the Japanese giant had an amazing financial result, but still put up the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 - though they are giving everyone outside of Japan until September before the price increase kicks in. They also surprised everyone with a short notice Starfox Nintendo Direct. Loads more on top of this, so come hang out with the lads in The DayOne Show Episode 313!
