For this final installment of interviews from Winnetka Music Festival, I spoke to Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist Vivian McConnell just after her set at this amazing local festival which took place June 19-20 on Chicago's North Shore.Vivian’s solo project, V.V. Lightbody, is best known for its “flute-forward” lush compositions, and also known for her work synth pop project Valebol with noted Chicago drummer Daniel Villareal. Vivian is involved in numerous collaborations and lends her talents to a broad list of indie bands including Finom, Whitney, Fruit Bats, Elizabeth Moen and Rose Hotel, among others. V.V. Lightbody’s third album is due for release in the Fall.In this fun convo between friends, Vivian shares with me her current evolution and mindset, and we discuss the importance of community in music, how her own DIY ethos has evolved, and the factors that have guided her in the growth of her now 10-year career.
