Did you know?: the word "alphabet" was derived from the first two letters of the Greek...erm, alphabet. Which is, of course, alpha and beta. The more you know... Well that was pointless. Anywho, a good number of developers out there (mainly PC guys) like to have early release versions of their games, known as either "alpha" or "beta" versions, in order to test them for bugs and whatnot.
