Episode #32- Gareth Maguire, co-founder and CEO of the Sport Changes Life Foundation, Belfast, Northern Ireland
from Holding the Ladder in Sport and Leadership · host Tim Rice
Gareth Maguire is the founder of Ulster Elks Basketball Club and the co-founder and CEO of the Sport Changes Life Foundation. He has been at the forefront of the Sport Changes Life movement since the pilot of the Victory Scholar Program in Ulster University in 2007. The idea of bringing elite scholar athletes from the United States to earn a graduate degree and at the same time work in the local community and raise the aspirations of young people in sport, all while playing the sport they love, came from Maguire, Professor Deirdre Brennan at the Ulster University, and International business man, Mark Marais. Maguire has led the way with his vision to help develop basketball and change the lives of young people of Ireland through sport developing EHOOPS Programs and Sports Programs with his wife Deirdre. He is also a former National League player in Ireland and played on the Irish National Team during his playing career.
