Episode 322 - Desierto *Listener's Choice*

from In The Queue - Film Conversations with Andrew and Phil · host Andrew and Phil

Jonás Cuarón follows in his father's footsteps as director of this tense thriller set entirely in the well, desert.  A group of Latinos are crossing the Mexican border into the U.S. and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, for one, doesn't like it one bit.  This psychotic super-patriot starts to pick off the travelers one-by-one with his sniper rifle, leaving Gael Garcia Bernal to act the hero and try to make sure all of his compatriots make it to safety.  Andrew points out this politically-charged nail-biter has the anatomy of a horror film.  Phil considers it an extrapolation of some footnote in No Country For Old Men.  Returning guest, Eric brings this film to ITQ.
