And welcome to appointment television. Our podcast about the TV you want to be time for Margaret's not crying right now. I'm Margaret. I'm Catherine.

I'm Andrew. I mean, you just finished Father Christmas is back. So we're not talking about that. We're not talking about this.

So we're talking about next episode. Sure. But it could still put me in my fields, right? For how emotional Margaret got over the incredible ending of Father Christmas.

I really did not think I was going to cry this much this fast. But here we all are. Hi. So for our listeners, this is our penultimate appointment, and television episode because as previously advertised, you have Father Christmas is back and our commentary, Therapon, to look forward to one more one more after that.

So what's the one before penultimate? There's a word for it. I can never remember what it is. Heri Perry, Perry penultimate.

Perry penultimate. I think it's an anti penultimate. Anti penultimate. OK, so this is the anti penultimate episode.

Yes. Well, then my crying deals even more extra. Yeah, but you know what, you know what? I'm surprised we made it this long, honestly.

OK, no more. I'm so fine. I'm super fine. And I definitely think the question and answer episode we are recording today is going to be just a breeze to make through without tears.

It's going to be easy. It's going to be an easy one. I have pulled many questions from our tumblr, a couple from Twitter, nobody emails. Shocking.

Well, I mean, a couple of people emailed us nice things, but those aren't that means more of a comment than a question. Everyone sure, but as long as they're nice, as long as they're nice comments, I really order anything. So we're just going to go for it. Before we go in deeper, I do want to say we've now told our listeners that we are going to discuss us watching Father Christmas is back.

Yes. But I really do want to advise them not to follow suit. This is not a Christmas price situation. Yeah.

This is this is not a peacock stand, Brown's law. No, it's close as much closer to the Bill Murray Christmas than to Christmas Prince. And I know we got some heat for not liking the Bill Murray Christmas thing that we watched, but I came away from it with a similar feeling of like not knowing who it was for or why it had been. So I mean, I think that that's a selling game, a good name of the Bill Murray Christmas special, which I did not like at all.

Wow. Until just now, I was like, what the fuck are they? Several years ago. Yeah, it's all coming back to you now.

It is. But point is, I just wanted to make sure you didn't accidentally watch it thinking it was going to be fun. Yeah, just because we watched it to dunk on it for your enjoyment. So just putting that out there.

And now that that PSA is out of the way, Andrew, what are the questions you have for us? How do we want to get started here? Like, what are people? What kind of question are we feeling?

No, no man. Succent. It's sort of hypothetical and Succent. And just for the people at home who don't know off the top of their head 100%, what that word means?

Could you explain that to them? I know what it is. Of course. Um, sassy?

Sassy. Uh, she mildly inappropriate cheeky. Okay. Yeah, I bet I can dig up one of those.

Okay. Question for the mailbag. Who is your favorite himbo? Andrew can say his favorite bimbo too.

Margaret can say both. I'm the first Billy Magnus. That's part of the question. Not right.

I understand. Wow. Like, um, thank you. Um, my favorite himbo is definitely Josh Chan from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

I just think he's the platonic ideal of a himbo. Yeah. Um, and by to be clear, I mean, the character, not, I mean, the actors right to Vincent Rodrigo or something to that effect. Um, but really just the character.

That's my guy. Mm hmm. Happened. Do you have thoughts?

Cause I think I said, oh, mine. Yeah, mine is Jason Mendoza from the good place. Classic himbo. Also a good one.

Also a very good one. Um, I just treasure him. It is extremely funny to me that many just until like, has said repeatedly in interviews that he is surprised that people find him hot. Wow.

That's, that's just evidence of anti Asian racism. Like right there, right there. Um, yeah. I mean, that beautiful could grow up in any doubt of his attractiveness.

It's really just like, it is incredible. Yeah. Like, I mean, cheekbones are substantially worse than his whole situation. And look at the number of messages we've got begging to see you shirts, but also like 95% of the human populations cheekbones are worse than the situation.

I mean, 99.99999%. Yeah. Yeah. Nine, like you can just imagine that repeating forever for a long time.

Yeah. Oh boy. Okay. Well, great answer, great answer.

Mine is, mine's not going to resonate with anybody else on the podcast. It's Bo Lin who is a character from the legend of Cora, which is the Avatar sequel series. Uh, he's pretty stupid. He's dummy thick and buddies a sweet boy.

Classic himbo. This is something I, we came, my, our friend of the show Camille, Washington. And I came to this conclusion when we were talking about the show. He's a classic himbo.

Well, I'm very happy for the people who are very excited that we briefly talked about an avatar property. I'm trying to think if I've got a favorite bimbo and who she would be. Like, do you have a favorite bimbo? I feel like this is like, this is a trap that I can walk into.

Um, like there's just got to be somebody hot and like gold diggy adjacent. That I like, I wish this would be a great moment to watch literally any real housewives franchises because I just feel like they are tricky though, because those, that whole bimbo situation gets really fraught with like manipulative money reality show stuff. Like the platonic ideal is the sweet empty head. You know, she doesn't do it for me anymore, but there was a time when I really, Hannah Brown was a favorite, not like I was attracted to her personally, but like definitely a bimbo, God bless and keep her.

Which is hard for why she has strongly falling out of favor with me. But that season, season was fire emoji, fire emoji, fire emoji. Um, so I would say like maybe her, maybe Caitlin Bristo, but like Caitlin Bristo was too, I feel like self-possessed to be a true bimbo. Yeah, I just, I'm, I'm uncomfortable with calling, like going to the reality well for this category.

Sure. It feels a little too personal. Those are real people, Margaret, living their real lives on television. Well, honestly, bimbo is like one of the nicer things I could say about Hannah Brown at this point in time.

Um, so, you know, there we go. Now I've offended anyone who still likes Hannah Brown. Yeah. And I think it's one of the best of the four.

It's fine. I'm here to fall upon the sword for you by sexually. Margaret, here's a quick one for you. Margaret, can you please clean up your mess?

And this one is signed, not a roommate. Oh, definitely washed the ditches today. So, but I'm pretty sure that actually is not a roommate. Maybe it isn't.

Maybe it is. Maybe it is. Maybe it is. It is.

It is. It is. There's only one roommate who would do that. And I just don't think that she would do that.

Well, doesn't this present some interesting possibilities though. You know, I, I'm blood related to two of my three roommates at this point. Um, and neither of them are this koi. So, sure.

Anyways, uh, this is from a while ago in the ask box. Mallory, if it is you, I hope I cleaned up my mess. Yes. If you could change one TV show ending, what show and how would you change it?

I mean, I would find a way to, and I don't even like, I'm not even that affectionate about Game of Thrones, but I feel like, wow, so end a show so badly that you retroactively ruin just how gigantic and ubiquitous it was. Somebody, somebody should fix it. Yeah. It's like seeing a beautiful old house.

It's like not your style. But it's so, you know, it could be so much better. Somebody, somebody should really take that. Somebody should really, yeah.

Just take that. Yeah. I just thought that in terms of having a making, you know, making a difference in this world, I feel like if I could fix Game of Thrones, so it ended good, instead of bad, I would change many, I would touch many lives. Yeah.

I would think about all of the little girls named Daenerys. My goodness. Who you could, who's lives you would improve with a better ending to that show. Well, hopefully they all have nice middle names.

I'll say. Um, I've long said that I feel like the final proper episode of the office should have been Jim and Pam getting married. And then there could have been like a Christmas special where Michael met Holly. Mm.

I don't know if I feel strongly about that and might circle back around. There might be something else I need to change more. But that one is really top of mind for me, um, because. Could do without the zombie seasons.

So especially those, even if you ended it, like Michael Scott taking off in the plane ever to return and then do some kind of special after that. But just don't need the show after leaves. It's, I've, I've seen it a couple of times and I had a hard time ringing anything. Also, it's just the tension in that show between the realism of the early seasons and the calcifying into sitcom of the latter seasons is especially tense, just because like there's no happy ending for the characters you like that still involves them being a dunder Mifflin.

And every additional season you get with them in that position becomes darker implicitly if you gave weight to the early seasons. So that would certainly be up there. I feel like the last, I think the finale has like a time jump element. And within that unseen time jump, people's lives change more than they have, like professionally for in the preceding nine years.

And I think in there, you see just how mightily that show was straining to pretend that all of these people would have been working in this office with the same job for almost a decade. Yeah, just dark. It was dark. And I would prefer to excise that darkness, um, you know, and maybe someday, you know, that'll happen.

I guess the only other one I might say is, um, Gilmore Girls. Yeah, it was on my list. Yeah. Just cause the ending of the show or ending of the reboot series.

Both. Cause I mean, I guess I would all of these. If you go back in a time machine, you don't kill grown up Hitler. You kill baby Hitler to prevent all the atrocities.

So maybe you you kill the original finale and in doing that, you make a reboot. But I would do is I would just not fire Amy Sherman Paladino in at the point when they did fire her and let her end the show herself the first time. And I can't guarantee. Involves.

I can't guarantee what the outcome would have been because it does just seem like she seems very unsure about whether or not Rory and Lorelai like suck as people. Yeah. And I would want there to be some meaningful engagement with that question, especially in re Rory and maybe like some addressing of those issues. And like, I don't know if I can trust Amy and her hats to undertake that.

But I do think it would have been better than what it was, which is bad into like special, distinct hideous ways. Having seen subsequent Sherman Paladino productions, I am pretty confident in saying that she doesn't have a typical person's read on what seems annoying and what doesn't. She has a slash style top hat wearing person's read on it. Yeah, that's true.

I do. I still think maybe if she could have had creative control all the way through, we could have just a little better. I don't think it could have been worse. That's true.

I think it would have been hard for it to be worse. I would probably change. Yeah, Gilmore Girls is one that I would have picked. I might also change the ending of Girls, the show Girls on HBO.

They do a deus, no, baby Ex Machina at the end. And I found it frustrating at the time. I find it frustrating in retrospect for slightly different reasons. Like at the time it was like the show is going on plenty long and it doesn't really have a sense of like what this character needs to do now and I understand that they're just trying to create an ending.

Looking back, I now I think of that show more than I would expect because I do think it was an important show for like a lot of what would come later as far as how TV does comedy and the way that we treat sort of the like half funny, half serious, half hour and I want to be able to like point to that show and a lot of the really interesting things that it did and however you feel about its creator and its star. Like I think the show itself is actually much better than I feel like a lot of people remember it or at least is interesting enough to be worth wrestling with. Just the aggravation of the fact that a fundamental misreading of a comic line in the first episode kind of indemically sealed that show to be taken too seriously and not seriously enough simultaneously forever. Yes.

It's just like that a little bit of a joker moment for me. Just like the fact that she's like I could be the voice of the generation and then she corrects herself to like well of a generation. It's a joke. Yeah.

I mean I think that as I mean most things are better when they're divorced from Lena Dunham discourse and I think that watching the show now years after the fact when yeah would you not be experiencing that all the time would probably be for the show's benefit. And Lena Dunham bears more responsibility for the quality of Lena Dunham discourse than many discourse objects do. That's fair. I'm not defending Lena Dunham saying it's better not to read about her than it is to read.

That is oh boy that's for sure. But I mean like that's a huge admission for me because I'm like so discourse averse that I tend to just be like well but maybe yeah it's just the discourse is fault and that's one where I just had to be like you know did she deserve it to the degree that she got it no is it a feedback loop where you can't separate the discourse from her behavior absolutely but like boy if she'd ever learned to keep a thought to herself it really it just it could have been huge for her creative career it just really could have been huge. Yeah my feeling about it also is that because I want to be able to point to this like like a lot of what we're talking about is I don't want it's not the same as the show and like way too many problems came out of like conflating the show and the person and but like that is a really interesting also like it is an interesting way of thinking about the show and how we talk about all kinds of art now it was a really early signal for a lot of that kind of stuff and I just wish that the end were something anything more interesting than I don't know I guess she has a baby and then magically gets an academic job. I have another.

Carrie and Big. No. I want to do more questions. I don't approve of it more questions go for it but that I'm it's good it's good to be on the record of that because it's not in either.

Carrie and none of them and she dated on that show just to be clear. Okay let's see let's let's do some some quicker ones you're given one billion dollars the only stipulation is that you must spend it on TV related purposes i.e. Funding new shows starting a worldwide campaign and motion smoothing etc. What are you doing with that money Catherine let's let's start with you because I know you saw this one earlier so you probably been thinking about it.

Yeah what would I do with a million billion dollars billion dollars well obviously this question is made funnier by the fact that Tim Cook and Jeff Bezos have done this. I mean my my very first move is to immediately green light at least three more seasons of of teenage bounty hunters. Yeah exactly yeah we all agree that's that's number one with the bullet that's like Tbh that's like when you like you're like doing the trip and you're like what's the trip budget I don't know like you know well let's at least like you need the money for food like you need some money that's just like before you even do anything else you need that basic right yeah you do. Let's see with another billion dollars I would I don't know can I use my money to erase the existence of shows.

Oh yeah can you just can you just be like I pay CBS to remove both of me I buy the right to bull and nobody can watch anymore. The thing is I don't think you can afford that even with a billion dollars like I think unfortunately the shows you want to take down make too much money for their parent companies and you couldn't do it. Catherine I know something I want to do with our billion dollars of which I think you'd approve can I go out there. Peter wins the series on match the piece mystery.

Yeah why I mean that's why you could probably do that for like 20. I'm just saying that that's like part of it you know what that would be an excuse to print money like PBS yeah BBC what are you doing. And are you doing please you've adapted some of these advocacy novels three four five times. Don't do that you've only adapted the Peter wins the novels one time and we deserve a new one I don't I know it's gonna be tough because we're never gonna get a better Harriet and Harriet Walker but like I just want to see you try and I would also four more seasons of high fidelity two more seasons of high fidelity and like it knows exactly how many episodes it has that's what I want for high fidelity and and I want I want enough seasons of some town that it can be in reruns in perpetuity but not so many seasons that a serial killer ever starts targeting the characters on the show and or their loved ones.

Yeah okay so it's a fine line to watch. Yeah it's important to know that you said Harriet Walker and her name is Harriet Walter. Thank you so sorry yeah I you know like the whether you have enough money to stop sir it's tricky because on the one hand you want to say like I want more of the TV that I want to exist to exist but like my currently my reality is too much television and so my desire instead is to like eliminate some people's abilities to make TV like if I could shut down did you know Taylor she here's what I would do with my billion dollars Taylor Sheridan the show runner of Yellowstone mayor of Kingstown 1883 and whatever his other Yellowstone spin off is gonna be called that stars slice alone I would just read he bought this giant ass ranch called the four sixes in Texas and like it's with this huge thing and like they film all the shows there it's like this creepy it's like white person Taylor Taylor Perry like now down down there and I would buy that ranch I would burn it to the ground well it seems that seems no I would create some kind of climate change conservation situation I mean just like I don't know you I think you could you know how internet in this country is like a monopoly or do opally you know most people only have one or two providers like do something to just prevent these people from getting on the internet ever again and they won't totally silence them but it'll make some pretty hard one it will it will my answers to the question I'm sorry that neither of my co-host identified the correct answer because I'm one correct answer is to give Star Trek deep space nine a full HD remaster sure you go back to the original film you like recomposit the original effects you make that you make that shit look good you know what else I would do there are so many shows there's so many shows stuck in fucking limbo limbo yeah you get them on streaming you get them music rights get the music rights for no exposure and Murphy Brown and like all kinds of shit yes any any show that was remastered in that in that window where I mean this is still kind of happening any four three aspect ratio show that was remastered in widescreen and wasn't originally shot in widescreen oh boy no remastered again back and forth three stop it love it love it love it and my other lobby lobby for congressional regulation about how you can't do that shit you can't yeah and like we'll just we'll just remove motion smoothing yeah we'll pay off the standards group that like controls it's gone yeah you want your smooth smooth motion in your football game to fucking bad bucko I don't want my real television looking like a soapbox we make them pay for their motion smoothing and then we use the money to continue to fund our endeavors yeah I spend money I would make a I would make a cheap streaming box or stick that's it's not Apple so it doesn't cost $150 not Roku so it's not hoovering up data about every single thing that you do or say to your television it's just simple it's functional it works and it gives your TV a virus that turns motion smoothing wow I think I think we can make that happen yeah I love that I love that I have one more which is I would start a Connie Willis Oxford time travels cinematic universe absolutely because it's just like we're just overdue we just we need everything I just travel yeah we just need that we need that we've done Philip K. Dick style time travel long enough and it's time for Connie Willis and her fucking nerds to get all up in here with their comedies and their tragedies and they're just like historical fervor that's all I'm saying that's it all right one for Catherine I know that fortunately this is not your situation but I was wondering if you could recommend cartoons for children of divorced parents Bluey is great but I fear that my kid age three might not have the best response to a show depicting a traditional family ensemble just if you know of something Sean the sheep Sean the sheep Sean the sheep would be my suggestion what Sean the sheep deal what's his broken family like Sean the sheep is a found family Sean Sean the sheep is all of these sheep and the farm it's it is much more about there is like a one mom sheep and a one baby sheep but it's very much like everyone's just hanging out and having a bonkers good time together the sheep city sort of the farm yeah and it's like a farmer who's like calling him paternal is not even right because everyone kind of he's just sort of there and everyone's subverting his will all the time yeah so I would recommend that one I'm trying to think if there's anything else I think Octonauts anything where you're gonna get more of a friend or hangout vibe yeah yeah yeah yeah Tiger bluey like nuclear family or family vibe I can completely understand the concern there you know that is a great question and I wish that I had like more immediate I mean I think you're curious George is great for that yeah he's just the monkey and his friend the man in the L hat raises him like he is a human child yeah and the show's narrator always says you know that the man in the L hat is George's friend and I think he doth protest too much because this relationship is weirder than you're than you're describing it to me but anyway it's mostly fine there are only a few episodes where they sing curious yeah I may I have other suggestions possibly for for older kids but three is also in that range where they can't actually handle a ton of TV and so like I guess it's like yeah whips so you know it's something I'll think about but thank you thank you very much for the question I hope some of those suggestions are helpful this is this is just a shout out to somebody called gossip gay who did not ask any questions but has been giving us episode by episode feelings about their gossip girl watch I assume the new one I just want gossip gay to feel seen your raps it's been okay in my head your podcast comes out on Thursdays and tribute to the night of the week when the most popular shows aired for much of the 80s and 90s NBC's must see TV probably this time is just a coincidence and you all may be too young for Thursdays to be in your formative TV watching we are not we are not but I'd love to know I honest to God if we did do this and I'm not sure that we didn't I don't think we did not I think I think the only things that we looked in reference to was when you typically had a lot of work to do for releasing overdue yeah that yes and then it's just like Thursday it just feels like a good day for a podcast good day you know before the end of the week you still have a couple of c'mutes left to do but exactly like you taste the freedom and taste the freedom and she's like you need that little you need that little pick me up to carry over the line but you're like ready to be a little slap happy with us it just felt right but yeah that must be Thursday's was a huge in the friends Frazier era in like the very early 2000s I think I was watching it with my parents when they finally let me watch primetime TV was ER on Thursdays and yes oh yeah I could remember if ER was Thursday or Wednesday but um but yeah definitely the hey day of must see TV I watched so much garbage just because they put it on that night it really it was I mean you must see it they couldn't tell you that you had to see it if it wasn't true I watched legally a whole I what I think I may have watched every extant episode of Good Morning Miami a show I believe I've talked about on this show before certainly the vast majority of Veronica's closet so many episodes of Caroline in the city and like that's not even all of them like that's not anything begin oh my god what I forgot suddenly Susan how could I forget there was a there was a time in history when that block couldn't make a show just by putting a show there was and that and that ended sometime I mean I think probably I think good morning Miami might have killed it but you know a good morning Miami certainly fucking tried to take it down but yeah as the monoculture fell apart yes the power of must see TV Thursdays just shoot me ended wow it's very reliable for a while it's just still in there and read the Cola Tony that's the one thing that show brought us you know future for Monica's dad he was he was like a sketchy photographer on that show yeah wow okay I know we I know we all have thoughts about the I'm gonna do like we didn't get a lot that were just like openly critical of us and work but we'll do these in the middle and then we'll circle back around to fun stuff at the end okay I quite like the new Dexter you guys grown about it as you do with most things but it is good sometimes you're just such Debbie Downers on high horse let people just let people have fun or be even more generous let yourselves have fun without all the shackles at the back of your mind so I have a couple just quick table setting thoughts is one when Dexter ended after what seven or eight seasons like it gave all indications of being a spent force I don't think guessing that like a Dexter reboot was gonna be bad was like going out on now but I'm listen I have heard elsewhere that it has been like better than expected and good but great I'm glad but like on a wider point like I don't want to come down on the let people enjoy things crowd too hard because if there's one thing I know about them is that they don't handle criticism but I do want to respond to it as like a response to criticism because I think it's like usually well intentioned but like if my non enjoyment of a thing is enough to make you not enjoy it then maybe that says more about your enjoyment of it than it does about my response to it and I also think that you know as a podcast where we like responds to media I don't think let people enjoy things as an interesting way to interface with stuff like I think something we've done through the full run of our show is more akin to like let people have complicated relationships with things like you can like something and still criticize it you can hold two thoughts in your head at the same time some people can handle we shouldn't generalize the space between someone else's taste in my taste can exist and it can be okay so yeah I just want to let people enjoy things that be such a fucking condescending response to people who are criticizing something how dare someone say let people enjoy things and can't you have fun how dare they say that to the founders of the bones own and we just watch 10 episodes of peacock's damn browns and you know what we had every single episode fun fun so much fun fun fun fun fun fun fun fun fun fun fun fun fun we also love a lot of things we just as this has been a frequently very positive podcast.

Did you not hear our discussions of everything's going to be okay, which I would also use a billion dollars to give more seasons to. Teenage bounty hunters, the Americans. There's so many other shows that we've watched and loved that like, you know, annoyance is currently blanking for my brain. I'm just, if somebody is going to say to me, to me, have fun and enjoy things.

Sir, I am going to say to you, listen more closely, buddy boy. All right. Because I'm having plenty of fun and enjoying all of it. This is clearly just a nailed it.

Stan who is. Look, like if you love nailed it, like God bless and keep you like I'm so glad it's there for you. I don't love it. But like I'm so glad it's there for you and to be a sendy paycheck for Nicole buyer.

Like God bless. Yeah. Yeah. That's right.

Pain of coal buyers, rent and car insurance, you know, we just get that you covered for her. Yeah. Anyways, this one is, I mean, I think it's for the room, but because it touches a little bit more on like Catherine does day to day. This person says you like week to week episode.

There's a pretty, there's an not great intro. I'm not going to read you like week to week episodes of TV because it gives you time to write with less pressure, not because it makes for better TV than whole season drops. Oh, but shows that are week by week staying conversation longer and generate more buzz blah blah blah bullshit. No one cares about the buzz only you who live off the buzz to and I hate that you try to advocate for this bullshit.

As if it is a good thing, what is entirely subjective and is more of a nice thing for you, which by the way, because of screeners, you're mostly personally exempt from this erodes trust in media, you're just a self-serving bunch of vampires. Period. Okay. Wow.

Here are my thoughts. Go ahead. Here are my thoughts. There are two thoughts.

There is one that is related to my work and then there is one that is related to my judgment of what kinds of TV is good. From a work standpoint, I can completely see how looking at it from the outside, you could come to the conclusion that my life is easier and I have to do less work when a show comes out week to week than when it comes out all at once. And yet I noticed that in the same question, you acknowledge the existence of screeners, which turns most things into a binge for me. So like the reality of the workflow has much less to do with how a show is released than all kinds of other extenuating circumstances.

There are a shit ton of week to week shows that we do not cover with that kinds of intensity. There are shows that come out that are binge style that end up being like weeks and weeks of work. It's very hard to make any kind of meaningful relationship between weekly release shows versus binge shows and like how much of my workload that they are. Right.

The other thing is the next supposition there is that I am then saying that weekly release shows are a better form of television than the binge release and my motivation for doing so is because I have to do less work for them. Hopefully I dealt with the second part already. The first part I just want to say, there's a lot of shitty week to week shows. There's a lot of shitty binge shows.

There's great week to week shows. There's great binge shows. We are in a moment in television where you could tell me that a show was dropped in everybody's laps like a milkman delivered it to my house once a day. I would be like, I don't even know.

I guess I have to see it could be good. I mean, I even want to push back on the thing where like a buzz is only important to people who care about us. Like just take succession Twitter as a case in point. It's been, I think the last time my feed reliably lit up on a schedule for a show was like Breaking Bad ending probably.

Really? Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones. Yeah.

As we talked about earlier though, that show and it's so bad that it's been deleted from my memory. There have been other shows. But like point being, you don't get scheduled critical mass Twitter friend coverage for a show that does not air at a specific time for multiple weeks in a row. There's just no way to guarantee that all the same people are watching the same thing at the same time without doing that.

And that's not to say that it's inherently better because of that. It is to say that if I see a bunch of people whose opinion that I value or who that I care about like watching the same thing like six weeks in a row, then maybe I go to the show. I go to the show, I catch up and I want to like I join in and I have fun. And like I think I don't we've talked about how like show renewables right now or Calvin Ball, nobody understands how anything gets renewed or canceled because there's no data out there.

But like I've got to believe that like that buzz and that like the free press for it, I guess. I don't know what the name of the thing I'm referring to is but like the word of mouth. Yeah, word of mouth. The buzz you didn't buy.

Like that's got to be worth something for shows that are good that you like. It's just for me like I have a person who does not typically binge. Like I leave my house. I go to concerts.

I see movies. I know I know it's frowned upon on our television podcast to talk about my affairs with other culture but like they exist and it's just like if everybody watches Tiger King on like one Saturday, I mean like at the end of the day, it's not that bad because I don't actually miss having watched Tiger King. Like I can't catch up with that. That's not one my Saturday is ever gonna be.

But if you know people watch Mayor of Easttown for eight weeks on the sixth week, I can catch up and then I am your any sound. I'm any sound. I'm the mayor of it. I'm the mayor.

I'm red and on a mayor and naming myself mayor of Easttown. You know and it's great. And then we can all just joke about the fact that there's going to be a show called mayor of Kingstown later on the same year and just marvel at who made that choice and why. But the point is it's just it's actually nice.

It's nice to have longer time to spend with things you're enjoying and know that other people are spending time with them instead of just being like well we all drop it this one weekend and we snort it like a giant pile of cocaine and then we never talk about it. Which is how I experience glow, which is a show I have attempted to take scoops on off my one billion and do the last season of that one too. That was a covid cancellation that that hurt a little bit. Yeah.

Oh and last thing is the season two of Ted Lasso was actively hurt by the week to week release schedule. Don't at me. I don't care. It was her by you but not by you.

It's fault necessarily. Anyhow, there's a whole other conversation. Moving on. It's not that one is inherently better than the others.

What I'm saying. Yeah. True. Let's see.

Do we want to do do you have any more idea of what's next? Also, I would love to hear any all thoughts on succession. We did some already. Catter is published like a million smart things about succession.

She's stuck her tongue out. I was right. That's the most important thing. Yeah, you were right.

You were right. There was somebody I some tech reporter on Twitter who I follow who occasionally decides to have an opinion on TV and I really I've never wanted to tweet stick to tech at anybody more than I did at this person who tweeted after the end of the succession finale. Great show, awful season, great last 10 minutes. And the tension between great show, awful season as though this season is not like the show just doing more of what the show has been doing.

I think it you are you think more stuff happened in the first two seasons of succession than actually. Actually, yeah. And this is an extension of the like is it actually a drama or is it a comedy conversation? And that I think if I think if people could take into their hearts the fact that it is built like a comedy, which means that it is built like the office, a show where the point is that nobody ever leaves their office jobs for seven years, like right, the there would be a lot more willingness to accept it for what it is than this sense of like, but it's supposed to be about like the end of the, you know, it anyhow.

It also ignores that it's based on in part the Murdoch empire and like that dude isn't fucking 90 years old and never going to die. Yeah, it fits because that's how it actually goes. Yeah, right. But as far as what's next, we talked a little bit about doing a couple months of good one bad one, one for spring and one for fall.

We never really say the mid winter or the early spring premieres, there are some dangers up in there. We can we can. Based on schedules and just see what's what's up. I'm not, I'm not.

I should be idea that we've gravitated back toward at least like the ATV idea we could repurpose is the old type, which is where we watch old stuff. Yeah. Partly because we've like even, even Catherine, who does this for a living, like we have hit a bunch of holes in our collective like pop cultural knowledge through this. We have, it's true.

And also doing like the, you know, because these things are done and people have talked about them for years and years, like they're always like, interesting cast stories and and things you can say about like their historical impact and your legacy that you can't necessarily get out of a show that's like on right this minute without the benefit of hindsight. So yeah, I mean, I feel like it's gonna be in there somewhere. I just don't know. I think it's gonna be there.

We just kind of have to find an organizing principle behind like which ones we do when and how. Yeah. Definitely. Like maybe we do like 10 week seasons where we do like a decade of time drop a gun.

Something like there's, there's some like, there's some likes, there's some, there's some likes, there's some games, there's some stems, some of them go all the way down to the ground. And I'm just saying we're gonna fucking figure it out. Yeah, we'll figure it out because I don't know if you remember how much I was crying at the beginning of this episode. We were it's just, we're gonna make it happen after all.

And if it has to be crane wives, even after Father Christmas being back, it can be crane wives. It has to be crane wives. It might be the crane wives. It might be the crane wives.

It might be the thing that people got. Yeah. Here's one Catherine's one. This is for you.

When are you going to release the crane wives your Frasier crane podcast? Yeah, give us one more question to take us out. Let's see here. That one's just for me.

Is it a nice one? Nice to you. If you said anything mean to Andrew in our aspect ever, I just would like to say like feel free to see yourself out of whatever listenership we have in the future because your kind isn't welcome here. I can't imagine that we haven't talked about this well.

Believe me if you have to bully anyone. Okay. I need it. Okay.

Yeah. Andrew. Why is it that watching hot young, dumb people getting drunk and making poor choices is comfort TV? Is it living vicariously thing or look at these idiots?

My life is better than theirs. Oh, for me, speaking as somebody who just watched five episodes of the Sex Lives of College Girls and then had vivid memories of the three to four seasons of Greek, I watched on my lunch breaks back in the early mid-offs. It is definitely, oh boy, you could not pay me to be that age ever again. No, no, no.

I wake up and I'm sore in so many places so many days and it's not because I've done anything to exert myself, but just because I slept too hard and I will take it forever. I will take my creaky old fucking knees and just never ever ever be 19 again, never again. It's not there's no age I've ever been where I've wanted to be younger again. Sure.

I guess for me, it's not like that my life is better than theirs, but it can make me more comfortable with the life decisions that I did make. These were the decisions that were right from me. What is happening on my TV right now? There is no appeal for me.

And I was not to say that their life is worse or that they made wrong decisions. I mean, they are on TV and I'm not. But yeah, I'm good. Like, I'm good, mostly with how I've lived my life.

Yeah. I mean, I think the part of the reason that those shows are comfort TV is the way that they're, I mean, they're very easy to watch. Like, I can sit down and know that the snakes are not high and that this show, I don't really have to pay attention and there's going to be a lot of bright colors and there's going to be, you know, like cheap drama. And I, it's not going to be texting for me and it's not going to be like outcomes are going to be so telegraphed.

Yeah. And I'm not really going to feel bad about anything that happens. Just like, you know, you got to have something you can put on while you file for reimbursements from your dependent care flex spending. That's right.

Yep. That's what that is. All right. Okay.

So yeah. Yeah, that's why. Okay. Well, okay.

Well, if you have some compliments, you would like to share with us to make me cry. Andrew, where can they direct those? We're on for sure. We're on Twitter.

We're still going to be on Twitter at Twitter at Twitter.com slash at podcast. Right. It's going to be a TV podcast. We have an inbox at potted email.com.

I only bring it up because we got no questions in the inbox, which is fine. It's just nobody uses email no more. Okay. Yeah.

We appreciate it. I don't want to. ATP podcast.com is our website. We have all our episodes, including the next two that we're going to do.

We have next week, of course, we're watching the Kelsey grammar vehicle Father Christmas is back. Which is a watch for the whole family. Don't do it. Just a light-hearted romp about your children will hate you.

A man who is so great. So we'll talk about that next week. And then after that, it's a finale. And I don't know what it's going to be, but we're going to figure it out.

Margaret, they want to follow us individually on Twitter where they go. They can find me at Mrs. Friday next. I'm at KVN.

I'm Andrew writes. And if you enjoyed this, please pencils it for next week. Until then. Bye.

Bye.
