Episode 326 - Lyle Workman

from The Hustle · host Jon Lamoreaux

Guitarist Lyle Workman is one of the more successful multi-hyphenates. He began his career in the 80s as a member of Bourgeois Tagg where he co-wrote their biggest hit, the beautiful "I Don't Mind At All". When that band broke up, he became a hugely in demand sideman and session guitarist where he lent his talents to artists like Jellyfish, Frank Black, They Might Be Giants, Alanis Morissette, Bryan Adams, Pat Monahan, Sting, Todd Rundgren and many others. As if that wasn't enough, he eventually made a name for himself as a celebrated film composer, scoring many Judd Apatow projects for screens big and small. Earlier this year he managed to release an excellent solo album called Uncommon Measures that sums up so many aspects of career perfectly. In this conversation we discuss how you go about scoring a film, hear stories of the many people he's worked with and what inspired his new album.
