Every year, I like to know about the upcoming changes in my state for the new year. I think it's important to know what's changing. Plus it makes for a good conversation as well. So I chose a few states that apply to me and I thought I would start with New York. Welcome to Drea's point of view. I am your hostess, Drea Thank you for tuning in. In the state of New York for 2023, airports will have to provide lactation stations for women. Employers have to have private places for women to breastfeed at work. I think that is amazing. That should be everywhere I think. Nursing homes have to notify residents and families if there is an infection in that place. There are a number of domestic violence laws on the docket for this year. One of those laws includes sexual assault. Survivors will be able to apply to the state to keep their voter registration from the public. You can take firearms from people who have a protective order against them. The judge will decide if that owner is a danger. That's huge. Those who are convicted of hate crimes need to go to counseling In hate crime prevention, It had to be authorized by a court or other local agencies. Another law of interest was New York will be the first state in the nation to reimburse organ donors for liver and kidney donations. Expenses that aren't reimbursed by health insurance will be covered under a new state program. In Georgia Most of the new laws take place on July 1st. Under the Senate Bill 226, schools have to start taking complaints about books and websites that parents think are harmful to minors. That should be interesting. Principals have up to seven days to decide whether to ban materials. Unhappy parents can appeal to the local board, which is supposed to decide within a month to give them a right to address the board. Health insurance companies have to report how they provide mental health coverage for kids and adults to the State Insurance Department. Grants to help with court ordered mental health treatment started January 1st. Food trucks can operate with a health permit from their home County's health department instead of in multiple counties. They still have to submit their health permit where they plan to operate.
