A cold, grey January morning.  A woman with a gun in her hand.  A corpse on an abandoned golf course.  Detective Inspector Andy Horton is taking a break on the Isle of Wight. But even when he’s on holiday trouble follows him . . .How I came up with the idea for THE ISLE OF WIGHT MURDERS, no. 5 in the DI Andy Horton Solent Murder Mystery Series of 19."An exciting and dramatic story. Even on holiday, Horton, has a knack for finding trouble. A thriller, one murder seems to attract more of them. Characters were complicated and intriguing, with a labyrinth like trail of clues." Snowdrop"Beautifully written, gives you a great layout of the island and continuing underlying storyline too. Brilliant and easy to read, I did it in one sitting and can't wait for the next one in the series"  Judith"Excellent, well written and a cut above the rest. I have enjoyed all of her books." Pauline Johnson Loyal Books It is eminently fitting that this daughter of Nature should have been laid to rest in no urban cemetery. According to her own request she was buried in Stanley Park, Vancouver's beautiful heritage of the forest primeval. A simple stone surrounded by rustic palings marks her grave and on this stone is carved the one word "Pauline." There she lies among ferns and wild flowers a short distance from Siwash Rock, the story of which she has recorded in the legends of her race. In time to come a pathway to her grave will be worn by lovers of Canadian poetry who will regard it as one of the most romantic of our literary shrines. (from the Biographical Sketch in Flint and Feather: Collected Verse by E. Pauline Johnson) Hagar's Daughter. A Story of Southern Caste Prejudice Pauline Elizabeth Hopkins Hagar's Daughter was first published serially in "The Colored American Magazine" in 1901-1902 by Pauline E. Hopkins, a prominent African-American novelist, journalist, historian, and playwright. The book was described as "a powerful narrative of love and intrigue, founded on events which happened in the exciting times immediately following the assassination of President Lincoln: a story of the Republic in the power of Southern caste prejudice toward the Negro." (From the January, 1901, issue of "The Colored American Magazine")In another of her works, the author explained the nature and purpose of her literary efforts: "But, after all, it is the simple, homely tale, unassumingly told, which cements the bond of brotherhood among all classes and all complexions. Fiction is of great value to any people as a preserver of manners and customs—religious, political and social. It is a record of growth and development from generation to generation.
