Episode 34-What Feelings of Rejection Tell Us

from Axis Podcast · host Axis Podcast

In this episode, we finish our review of the book Victory Over the Darkness, by Neil T. Anderson. For more information visit www.axispodcast.com Thoughts and feelings of rejection that often plague us can be major deterrents to our maturity in Christ. Apart from Christ, we all learned early in life to respond to rejection by taking one of three defensive postures. First is beat the system (can be anything from family church society, in general,) this person beats the system and learns to compete to get ahead and become the significant other. Eventually result in more rejection because the ability to perform eventually diminishes The emotional effects of beating the system includes: the inability to express feelings, emotional insulation perfectionism, worries. Attitudes in reactions toward God for this person refuses to come under the authority of God and have little real fellowship with God. The second defensive posture is to give into the system. This person continues to satisfy others but begins to believe that he or she is rejectable and unlovable. The emotional results of someone who gives into the system are feelings of worthlessness and inferiority, subjectivity, introspection, and self-condemnation. The attitudes are reactions toward God for someone who gives into the system or projects their earthly Father's behavior onto God and unable to trust God. Third defensive posture is rebelling against system. This person fights the system and says "I don’t need or want your love," and often behaves or dresses in an objectionable way. This results in more rejection because a rebel causes others to be more defensive of the system the rebel rejects, emotional results are wishing he or she had never been born, undisciplined, irresponsibility, self-hatred and bitterness. Attitudes and reactions toward God —they view God as a tyrant and rebel against him.
