Episode 35: CAREGIVING: A TOUGH JOURNEY TO INNER MEANING AND PURPOSE

from The Survivor's Guide to Life · host Peter M. Bernstein, Phd

How do we become the person we were meant to be? Essential parts of this life journey include being willing to face and grow through adversity, develop the discipline of transformative resilience, and accept the challenge of providing compassionate care to someone who needs us. This process is neither simple nor easy. We will be required to face ourselves - our emotions, limitations, and painful histories. Everyone, especially caregivers, will need to deal constructively with their negative emotions of anger, fear and sadness, their emotional triggerings and their at times physical and emotional exhaustion. Being part of a supportive family or team helps, as well as maintaining an attitude of hope and a desire to learn and grow.
