Send us Fan MailEpisode 35 - East rows West - Three rugby mates taking on the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge. Rowing across the Atlantic Ocean unassisted for 35+ days.Race - https://www.taliskerwhiskyatlanticchallenge.com/Starting December 12 2021, three Hong Kong Valley FC rugby friends, Martin Muller, Matt Bell, and Rob Lennox, will commence their extreme adventure of rowing unassisted for 4800 km across the Atlantic ocean (in a row boat without a motor on board!).Labeled “The world’s toughest row”, the three set off from San Sebastian in La Gomera, Canary Islands, Spain (28oN 18 oW) and row in shifts non stop to achieve their goal of 35 to 40 days (weather permitting) to Nelson’s Dockyard, English Harbour, Antigua & Barbuda in the Caribbean (17oN 61oW)In this podcast the boys discuss their detailed preparation, their inspiration and also the possible challenges of such an extreme event (one of the boys is reading Taleb’s ‘The Black Swan' as I type this description). They candidly break down sleeping on board, storing a necessary 90 days worth of food on board to handle the just in case scenarios while getting enough calories to survive the maniacal amount of rowing needed to cross the Atlantic Ocean in 35 to 40 days plus worst case scenarios such as falling off and having a boat be the victim of a sail fish…I am not joking!The Charity the courageous three are raising money and awareness for is The Child fund Rugby.
