Episode 35 - Edge of Tomorrow

from In The Queue - Film Conversations with Andrew and Phil · host Andrew and Phil

Tom Cruise plays Cage, an Army officer who is forced into combat during an alien invasion. Cage is strictly a PR guy, not a fighter at all.  After he is thrown into the fracas, he manages to kill one of the aliens (known as Mimics), but quickly gets killed himself.  He then finds himself starting over at the moment he arrives on the army base every time he dies.  Yes, this premise is extremely similar to that of Bill Murray's "Groundhog Day", but " Edge of Tomorrow" manages to turn an unmistakable plot device into something all it's own.  "EOT" features Emily Blunt as Cruise's compatriot in this often humorous sci-fi flick.  Phil was not looking forward to this one after seeing the trailer over and over again while watching past films for various podcasts over the previous months, but he was pleasantly surprised. Andrew has even higher praise for "Edge of Tomorrow".  Check it out for yourself.
