Episode 35 - Polytechnique (2009) - "Putting the 'Man' in 'Manifesto'"

from I Didn’t Need To See That · host Peter Radwanski

This week on I Didn’t Need To See that, we close out our month of covering films on School Shootings (thank god) as we cover a lesser known tragedy and film (by American standards) and journey into the wild winters of Montreal, QC as we watched the 2009 film “Polytechnique”.  Based on the harrowing true story of the 1989 École Polytechnique Engineering school massacre, tune in today as we grapple with the true horror of what unfolded on that fateful day, and how film still serves as a means of education and call to action in a world largely numb to the daily onslaught of tragedy in the news. On brighter notes in the episode, we marvel at the technical competence show by director Denis Villeneuve long before he was known as one of the great modern directors. Also, we again faun over the days of smoking indoors as depicted in films, talk about how incels aren’t just America’s problem, and you can’t spell Manifesto without “Man”.
