When I was a kid, my room was often a mess. Clothes on the floor, toys everywhere. My mom would try to stay on me to keep it clean, but it was mostly a losing battle for her. What usually inspired me to clean up, however, was when I couldn't find something. Then I knew it was time to take inventory and get a bit more organized (for the time being, at least). Data management isn't much different - especially with large unstructured data lakes. Not only are there potentially millions - or billions - of files, but much of that data is redundant, unnecessary or obsolete.
