Heather Adams, 2020-2021 President of The Blue Ridge Institute (BRI), talks with Patrick about the institute as a haven for nonprofit executives, and about leadership in the social sector. Heather currently serves as the Director of Engagement and Literacy Initiatives for Ready for School, Ready for Life, an early childhood systems building initiative in Guilford County, NC. She joined the team at Ready Ready in 2020 after 16 years at the Rockingham County Partnership for Children, a local Smart Start agency, where she served as the Executive Director from late 2005-2020. In this role, Heather worked to ensure that young children receive high-quality early childhood experiences. Heather’s prior experience also includes several years as a Montessori classroom teacher and work with the Greensboro Children’s Museum during the design/implementation phase. Heather values the opportunities she has had to work with a variety of racial justice initiatives including the Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation Commission, as well as, her work with leadership development organizations. Heather holds a BA in Sociology from Guilford College and had the opportunity to spend a semester in Ghana as a student. This experience significantly shaped her worldview and her commitment to serving her community.
