Summary
In light of the tragic murder of Aishling Murphy a few days ago in Tullamore, County Offaly, although I had planned on doing an episode like this in a few weeks time, I just could not get this out of my head so I decided to record this today. Things need to change big time. The fact that women can’t go out and do their daily bits on their own without fear that they might be attacked, assaulted, raped or killed is not one bit normal yet we have just lived our lives for years just as though it is normal. We have been told since we were small to not do this and make sure you do that etc. etc. all to make sure we are kept safe from dangerous men. We have almost become numb to it over the years and have to accept the fact that some men will inevitably do things and we just have to do what we can to protect ourselves. Obviously what we have learned from this is that there is nothing more us as women can do anymore to protect ourselves. Therefore, conversations need to be had and changes need to be made. Actual punishments need to be put in place for men that attack women and women need to be listened to. It’s not all men but it most certainly is some men and my friends and I have had our fair share of dealings to prove so which you can hear about in this episode. The justice system is warped and victim blaming needs to stop and that's just touching the surface of things that need to change. The facts and figures that I discuss in this episode are shocking. I know most of my listeners are women but I would encourage men to listen to this episode to open your eyes a bit to a few things you might not realize. RIP Aishling xx
