Episode 36 - Ellyn Foltz - The Magic and Mystery of Music

I got to know my guest Ellyn Foltz during my time in Seattle. Ellyn brings energy, enthusiasm, and total commitment to everything she does but that is combined with the natural ability to not take herself and her work too seriously and to make fun a priority. Those talents are now being applied to probably the most important role she has ever had which is VP of nannying to her 5-month-old granddaughter the "Lovely Libby". In her previous corporate life, Ellyn had a successful and impressive career with some of the biggest names in the IT sector: IBM, DEC, HP, Microsoft. It was no surprise to me that Ellyn immersed herself in the Music Talks process and it has paid dividends in a series of great song choices and some fantastic stories and memories. I find the way her song choices take her back to specific time, place, sound and smell really moving and the joy they give her is another highlight. In Episode 34 Tim Lulofs was the first guest to play an instrument during an episode and Ellyn is the first to sing along to her choices! It’s a delight to hear. This episode was recorded three days after the US Election and needless to say we get to discuss it in "Final Thought".  Ellyn talks passionately about America’s unfulfilled promise and her personal commitment to help realise that potential and deliver on that promise. In the “Final Thoughts” section we also get to talk about losing a parent to Alzheimer’s and the power of music to still make connections even in the latter stages of that awful disease.
