Episode 365: Episode 365 - Interview with Jerry Hey

from Records Revisited · host Ben Montgomery

Maybe the name Jerry Hey doesn't ring any bells for you. But, you've been listening to songs that Jerry has played his trumpet on or has arranged for probably your entire life. He became one of Quincy Jones' main studio guys. He arranged strings on "Billie Jean," played on Brothers Johnson and Earth Wind & Fire and George Benson albums, that's him on Dolly's "9 to 5," and he's been on a ton of TV and movie soundtracks (yep, that's him on the CHiPs theme song). And, since I'm reengineering the "Seven Degrees of Kevin Bacon" to "Seven Degrees of Dan Fogelberg"....that's Jerry on the flugelhorn for the "Longer" solo. Guess how many takes it took to nail that solo?Check out other episodes at RecordsRevisitedPodcast.com or one all your favorite podcast providers like Apple Podcasts, Castbox, iHeartMedia, and Spotify.
