Episode 369:

from Wut Hpnd 2 Us? · host Huw Lewis

AI is here and there's no stopping it... even when it comes to a doctor searching for something. This idea of doctors leads us down the rabbit hole of standardized testing. We take a turn into the political sphere with certain races coming up and the ideocracy of some members. Why wouldn't the talk of political corruption lead us into the world of FIFA. We do find our way into more normal conversation of film with the Odyssey and the Devil Wears Prada 2. Huw's been on a hot streak in the film watching recently. We take a quick dive down the parody films with Mel Brooks' Spaceballs 2 coming to theaters soon. Hopefully everyone is staying safe out there.

Whereas we're we're just putting out to the tens of people listening 20 20s of people Welcome back to what happened was with me saving you as you can tell me and I were talking about AI because we're using it But at least it's a nose for us. So you know, yeah, I I Don't want to say on a different day because it seems pretty shitty the horror stories But you know what I haven't had honestly whenever I google shit and the AI answers the first thing that pops up the AI overview It seems fairly helpful and usually the right answer for you Yeah, I was a little bit alarmed though. I went to a doc my doctor two days ago and He was using the google AI to look up info for you know to his credit. He was unfamiliar with a certain type of disorder and he The treatment rather and he looked it up and he's like I'm just gonna google this and he apologized He's like it's I apologize for using AI to look up medical information, but that's where we're at did it help?

I don't know. I don't know basically his take from it was you know what? I'm gonna refer you to a different doctor like one who actually has a specialty and such things So yeah, yeah, yeah, you know what? I appreciate though a doctor being like, you know what somebody might be smarter than me So not everybody's doing that these days and if it's your general practitioner usually there They're there for like the general note of things like oh you have this issue.

You need to go to the specialist who actually does that Yeah, like it's you know, I was diagnosed with our immune disease and he is Sort of falls under his you know because he's a general physician, but he has specialties But he was just not particularly familiar with this so he's like I'm gonna look it up I'm like, okay, cool. I mean I could have done that myself, but I trust you You can actually translate this a bit better than I even though I don't you know what you scored on the MCATs Did you take them? I did take them. I don't remember I'm assuming you were able to get yourself into it medical school.

How'd you try that? Probably? Yeah? Yeah, no, it's a good score.

I just can't I can't remember my SAT score either to be honest with you I just found out It's a 1600 no that close to that like I have a horrible test acre that is like one of my you know my issues So I remember my ACT score only because I did I did do well on that and honestly the UC the University of California school systems They didn't give a shit about the SAT no they care about it. I did well now shoes Yeah, I think I did take the SAT to I just I did fine on the SAT I probably if I was applying to schools that cared about it more I would have taken a second time because I felt It's sleep while taking it. I took it fortunate. I had to take the SAT three times because the first time it took it They lost it.

Oh that was fun. They lost everyone that I took it with so we had to go into it again Which sucked and then you know you like oh you have to take it again and it's like oh okay? And I did take the ACT which I didn't they were because of my learning differences as we call them out of disabilities They're like maybe the ACT might be better for you. The ACT was not better for me because the focus I was not a great science student I wasn't a great student and I couldn't do it for my my one of my my disabilities is to do with languages So far language wasn't an option.

So I'm like math science in English I'm like and it did not go well for me. So yeah, I was I was always you know more obviously stem side English is my first language But I'm not fluent as most people are not But yeah, I honestly Did they switch it up the AC I know they switched up the SAT scoring I think they switched it back I have no idea for a while there like in our day back in our day was a perfect 1600. I have a friend who actually got a 1600 He is now he's currently a He's that one of those dudes that was taken like college courses when we were in middle school, right? But he never he didn't graduate early.

He was just basically a college junior by the time he graduated Okay, so he was still with us the whole time and now he's a law professor at Duke. Oh, okay. Yeah, good for him But yeah, he got 1600 which is pretty impressive. Yeah, I knew the guy I knew that guy who got a 1590 and then retook And got a 1590 again, and it just infuriated him.

I don't know Does he know what he got? I mean you don't you get your results, but you don't get the actual get to look at the score No, you don't get to see what you got wrong I don't know what that guy's up to because he was a lazy student. He just he was genius. He just was lazy So he didn't go to like this Ivy League school or anything like that.

He was which our school was very it was crazy for the amount of students because 89 students were my graduating class. I think over 10 went Ivy League schools damn Man, I thought my school was small my graduating class was 186. I thought that was small. My mom's high school graduate class The whole school was like eight thousand people so that's insane to me.

That's like a that's a decent-sized liberal arts college That is a decent that's bigger than my liberal arts college Because my my school is 1500 students. I feel like at UCLA I had classes with 1500 students like in the room Yeah, our lecture halls were pretty damn big our biggest class in the school school's history that I went to was like 350 students And that's probably closer to I'm obviously exaggerating but there are like I mean if you've ever been on a UCL campus That lecture holds pretty fucking big. This was not so it was a class called extraterrestrial life Which was a non-lab science so everyone needed a lab science and a non-lab science And so the first year was offered everybody went into it They did not know what they were walking into and I was one of those people I was like oh this will be fun I was like I understand how the universe started and the meticulous of you know those kind of like astronomers of like Information it was next I took an alien class just for fun. Right.

Like it was an elective. I mean I was a science major It was an elective within science because I was like you know what that sounds fun as hell man I took so many classes that just I took for fun like I think I've mentioned you I was one I was just a few credit short about music history minor which I wasn't even going for I just like taking music history class I was a really a music minor like I was like two classes away from being a minor in music without playing an instrument Like there you go. I mean I just saw like you know I was a I was a raver at the time There was a history of electronic dance music class. I'm like fuck yeah, I took a Beethoven class I took a European film musicals class just because they're fun man.

I don't care There's something about doing things like that where you just go to college to learn things where that's the whole point That is the point of it. Yeah, like I that was the one thing I appreciated just In general just education like we can all fight like whether it's worth it or not because you and I can both say our degrees did absolutely F all for our lives. No, fuck all right outside making us a bit of smartasses when it comes to certain things within that and I'm like And people always like what did you major and I'm like economics like oh mister I'm like I go listen I studied a socioeconomic policy where I was literally learning how capitalism turns into socialism turns into communism Like I read the count on me this manifesto I don't know how many times which you know, I think three which is two more times And anyone should read it three more times and I've read it and but I understand communism's making a comeback So well I mean communism has been making Nancy Pelosi's a communist for my understanding So, you know, she's not giving me that wealth away based on what the maga folks now They're general understanding of communism, which is no understanding of communism everything everything bad to them It's the same thing as woke like there's that great meme the people always use where it's the guy you're like repairing his car And if the thing says everything I don't understand is woke or something like that basically like oh, I don't know what that is That's what it's now. They're now they're using it for communism because it's their new boogie man if they were using it Before that as well like it's been I think they've been using everyone on the left is a communist or a Socialist with our or a fascist they just throw all the words out all the isms Yeah, and you know, they don't know what any of them means I don't even though you would like to think that a Ted Cruz would know what he means Oh, he does but he's one of the most insincere because he is a very like even the folks that hate him the most that work with him in Congress They all acknowledge he's a very smart in fact his his background is constitutional law Yeah, and people who despise him have said no, he's more knowledgeable of constitution than anybody I've ever met He's just an asshole and he acts like he doesn't force Johnson That's what Boris Johnson And genius and he plays an idiot because it's sympathetic Boris Johnson was able to like he kept his hair his way He kept himself disheveled for sympathy Because like if he was just him he wouldn't be sympathetic now Ted tries to do just nobody likes him I don't know how he keeps getting elected.

That's my major question Texas. Texas hates him Yeah, Texas they do it, but they keep electing him Same thing with there's a senator Kennedy. I believe his name's Joe Kennedy I could be mixing that up with a famous Kennedy's but from Louisiana Who he tries to do the homespun like basically talks in a fake fog horn accent because he represents Louisiana And he acts like this like homespun like you know He knows common sense, but he's not book smart that he's just doing that whole like playing down to his base He was a road scholar. Yeah, he's where's the road?

He's not an idiot But he acts like an idiot because it makes the maga folks like it So that's what Cruz does But yeah, so anyway, I don't even know how we got on that Well, just communism communism and we you know we're seeing a influx of that because we have all these primaries going on right now In the process like we have the ones I've been keeping an eye on is michigan in the senate race And then you have the governor for Wisconsin, which is really interesting because i'm like fritch, that's how long is the dsa? So And she's she's crushing it in the polls So I just I saw I mean I was on reddit so take it with a grain of salt But it was some number and I didn't see the the actual like citations for it But something like 30 percent of democrats now are actually roughly they they identify as democratic socialist. Yeah, like it's it's it's You know the whole thing is like hey the whole the reddit post was like is the democratic party moving left? It's like well, I hope so it's got kind of has to because if it doesn't we're Let's put it like this the democratic party like I've had these arguments with a bunch of people years ago when Hillary Clinton was running to When Joe Biden was those primaries were happening and I go there these are the issues that I have and It's always been that they're leaning more to republican like I would say this hillary clinton was more of a republican than Ronald Reagan Was a republican so they've moved farther far the right and in the process of that they've isolated off their their base of voters And you see it like if you go and you just have a this is what I want.

I want health care. I want national health care I want Medicare for all it's a very simple majority of the people want that the amount of rage that people have Especially from white people who say I do not want to pay for other people's health care I'm like you're already paying for it. It's just going into the taxes. It's just relocating taxes It's like let's move away from the trillions of dollars of military spending which is even more bloated now I'm sorry that we're going to die tribe of random politics, but It's very simple like health care Affordability housing and what women's rights like it's not a it's not a crazy thing to run on and You know for the pro life.

They like a lot of death of children So you talk about not understanding it. They'll be like socialism socialism's bad and it's like okay cool You know that that's how the police and fire departments are funded right cool if you're getting socialism Let's defund the police. No, no, no, we can't do that. No, okay, then you just don't understand my favorite is the socialism good for the rich They love it.

They love it handing it all the money around like if you look at the NFL NFL is communism pad. It's finest Yeah, because all the owners take all the deals together and revenue share it equally. Yeah, but that is the Capitalism communism is what it is It's you have to be in a certain club to have it like using space X and all that shit like that government handouts You know, he's and the world's richest man has made most of his money based on government handouts Uh, have you been this is a nice good segue from capitalism bad, uh, the What's going on with FIFA? Oh where they infantino wants to uh, essentially Privatize privatize the World Cup sell shares off to private investors So it basically becomes I mean FIFA was corrupt as hell So to say it's gonna become for profit is a joke as it always was but the thing is is yeah now they're basically saying it's they're gonna They're doing the whole uh what we tried unsuccessfully with running the government like a business like oh, it's like a business a terrible business man At that but let's like a businessman to run the government like a business and it's like that doesn't work that way because the Government's not supposed to make money here's uh for those of you who haven't heard this or pay attention because the World Cup is over Quarter majority of people have stopped paying attention.

What's going on footy? Uh, it turns out that jerry kushner's brother is the one who's being fronted for this opportunity to purchase purchase in fife essentially It's him and jp morgan. Yeah, and so you wafer the european football association has already Come together. It said they will boycott the world cup going forward if this goes through every single country in europe signed off on that Which is I believe I want to say 50 something countries And if you take the european countries out of the world cup you don't have a world and you take away the history And they would I think other conferences would fall suit because concacaf which the us is in has already said like you We don't like this either.

So if you a foot does if you wait for pulls away, I think all of them will be like, yeah Fuck you fife like I forget what is the the south america come in ball or something like that the south american conference Like if they lose if they lose you a foot if he was you wait for tife is done. It's over. Yeah, no No, it's the um, it's the um, it's that a few years ago when the when you a fight i think was trying to do the super conference They were basically taking taking away all the domestic conferences like the english premier league lalega in spain uh league one league on in france Yeah, um, all of them were basically saying hey, we're gonna make a super league and take all your best teams Just basically neutering all of you and just taking the best teams in europe and it it failed miserably like they're the People realize it's a terrible idea and i'm hoping people realize this is a terrible idea and if not then we just watched the last world cup Which um, that's unfortunate It is a funny thing is uh here those illicit football federations Um, it's you got cat for example Confederation african football. Okay.

Yeah, it's concat cat cat. Oh, oh, it's yeah, it's that's us right that's north americans Caribbean, right? I don't remember what concat stands for but I know it's north america Federation of north central america and caribbean association football then there's confederate you hold a sada americana They flute which is conning ball. Well, that's south that south america and then what's a what's a hia's confer?

um AOC Is australia just they just off on their own. No, there are oceanana. Ah, okay So the ocean okay, who's an oceanana? Lot of islands.

I meant yes, there's a lot of islands. It's a bigger. It's a everyone's like is that just australia But New Zealand's a new Zealand. I was gonna say Tasmanian, but that's part of us really Um, we got oh yeah, I got tongue got to hee-dee's Samoa pappadogini.

Oh, all the football power house. Yeah, exactly. Cook islands american similar so Gotcha. Yeah.

So, you know, I mean that that's kia capitalism. Oh, it's a fantastic thing that is just destroying this world And it's really impressive that like even by fifea fifea Fifea, I don't know it's like six one half a dozen the other who's more corrupt between fifea and the IOC they're about the same They're of equal level. I still believe it's the IOC just by speaking But it's like he was really taking taking it like they're like we'll see what happens to it What is it infatino? It's like if he loses his presidency because of what's happening because it's like the one who did take over for because I'm like I'm blanking on me Wasn't it like said black?

No, that's I think said that's I think that's the OC guys, isn't it? I think that's who yes that was uh fifea Okay, so but like a bill always but my original point was even by fifea standards infantinos growth, which is impressive That's impressive to be to be considered over the top corrupt for the most corrupt organization in the world And it you know his name is like Italian for baby, which is funny. Yeah, um, yeah, but it was bladder was the uh for 17 years And you had an interim for 144 to 141 days from came around he didn't you know and then uh in fantino took over So we're gonna see what happens Because it's usually a european president because they get to be Well, that's yeah, so I guess this time around the new america. Where's the next world cup?

Uh portugal spain and one other nation like that. It's like an i it's like an iberian Iberian world cup there. I think they're doing it because they've realized the revenues that they're gonna be able to grow school Reddit. Yeah.

Oh, yeah, I did know spain. I didn't realize it was multi called multiple countries, but I did know spain was basically I know spain and portugal So, um, I think there's a third nation and I don't Maybe tandora mountains between probably not. I don't think they're a facility Is a maraco could be I mean that's directly in that is a moraco on the other side of the straight edge balter from portugal so could be Yeah, I believe it's okay. So here's the thing there is going to be one two four five six host nations Uh because they have all automatically qualified for 2030 Um, I don't I don't think I don't think moraco spain and portugal were in danger of not qualifying But you know, no, it'll it'll it'll he is uh keeps failing to qualify Yeah, so argentina paragway and eurogue are also, um, exactly they're hosting games because it's the hund 100 the numbers.

I don't know what it is. It's some weight they're hosting games at the next world cup. Yes, europe. Yes That's odd.

Yes Okay, okay interesting I like because I'm like I have no idea. It's for some Yeah, but that what's good. That's a diatribe of like weird conversations that you and I have a basic knowledge on so So we know we've you know, we've the american education system has failed us here's the thing at least we know where the nations are Mostly, yeah, they're the most part. Yeah.

Now if you were to um If you were to ask me to rattle off like all the countries of central america I'm not I could I could rattle off a few but I don't know all of them And I certainly if you if you wanted me to point them out on a map if you don't I couldn't do it central america is a Sauce spot for me. That's not fun and the new what was the eastern block of the uss are because all the stands Yes, and because i'm like i haven't really looked at a map when they broke ever since uss are fell because for those of us who are Listening to show are about the same age. I was like, oh we have to learn three four new countries because it was Estonia left the other way in the in the ukraine where the first nations to be released I have a new phone and I don't know how to mute it. So like old man.

Look at you old man I used to be able to do it easily. It was just like put the volume all the way down and we go to vibrate then mute It doesn't do that anymore, which is next next step is gonna be you putting your text the text font And like super huge like an old man mind your sight in this works against that from happening There so it's like I have to take my glasses off to read things Which is like my bifocals, baby. I'm not doing bifocals. I'm not going there Took me a couple days to do not feel drunk because every direction you look is blurry or clear It's so it got it took me a minute to get used to it, but now it's just second nature to the point where my my sunglasses are not bifocals So I I cannot read up close with them like I have to I cannot read physically read my phone with my sunglasses on which is unfortunate But um, you know what we're old so we are getting there and I just had a friend of the show Robert mays had dinner with him last night because he's doing his You know his his ventures around the the he's a football writer for those who has a podcast American football for the athletic Friend friend of old old bar friend.

I it's because I am no longer on the bad place I know he I don't he posts on blues. He does post blue sky But I feel like he's still more on which to his career, you know That's fair because a lot you know, mina kind feel says the same things as much as she's anti Twitter for what's Twitter's become She acknowledges that it's hard line of work because that's my biggest problem with blue sky is that the sports have not really moved Migrated over as much as I would hope like so if I if I go on my blue sky timeline right now It's it's mostly politics Because I don't really have that many friends that have done I don't have friends that really post on it. You don't really post on it. No, I just uh, I never got like I started posting on Twitter during the pandemic because I was just like this is just boring and I didn't know what to do And then all of it went to Let's go to shit when you want to get over and it was very going to show it was already there But it was like at least there was some I was in a writers community there I was like, you know, I was finding my way finally in in the shit of it was very good for sports Oh, yeah, yeah, and I imagine it probably still is I got a few of my favorites the journalists.

I really enjoy our moved over. I still avoid blue sky because it's terribly depressing I I just can't do the scroll anymore. I can't do it, but a few of them like me to kind of instance Michael jr There's a couple there's a one. I wish it moved over as well.

Money Jones. He's still just he's he's acknowledged on his podcast He's like I don't have the I don't have the bandwidth to add a new and new so, you know social media app But uh, and then sometimes you'll get the the the accounts that are just basically reposting They're not actual accounts, but it's like the on blue sky You'll have like the atom chef or mirror which just takes his tweets It's basically the same thing trump does where trump does is true social, but then it gets posted the twitter So he's not technically on twitter, but his his poster put on twitter That's how like a number of journalists like jeff passe and baseball journalists who by ever need baseball info, which I don't often need Uh, you know, I I will not go to the bad place ever. That's right I go to check it out every so often but I have to do it from my computer. I will not do it from my phone So it's like because when we're having conversations like this, I'll just pop it up on twitter See if there's anything trending of any craziness, but of course there is there's you know, federman doing whatever federman is Um, because he pulled out his nice hoodie in for this unit for them.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah It's his term almost over. I feel like the pennsylvania is over his shit Yeah, I believe his constituents are over his shit.

So if he even chooses to run again, I feel like him Can't wait he can't he can't win his republic. He might switch parties at this point. Do they even like him? Um, he pretty much does everything they want him Republicans to do so.

I don't know why they wouldn't like him Uh, he just doesn't have I had hopes for him just because you know, he was progressive Yeah, well, and you know what I yet you hate to to blame on things like that But there's a very good chance the stroke did very much affect his everything about him Unless he was just lying from day from the jump about his power But i think it's a factor brain like there's no getting around it Brain injury sure. I can't they can change your personality. I can I don't know how I'll come and it is to change your entire Political all your political leanings, but I don't know the brain is a weird thing man It is okay. So he will be his term will be up in 2028 So he's got to start prepping to run again if that's the case So if there's gonna be a primary it's gonna happen about now after this mid-term election They'll start ready to primary him which they have to so that's gonna be yeah, of course, of course And then i'm sure it's gonna be the governor maybe because he he's Opportunity to run Yeah, his opportunity to run for president's dead in the water now Um, it won't happen.

Yeah, because he yeah, and that's the that's the other thing is like if you have any affiliation to a pack You're pretty much done in democratic politics unless you're like able to swindle it out But people are able to find out how a pack is a pack can't now say a pack donated money They have to go through other they create subsidiaries to donate some are like the democratic progressive whatever wing Like they just changed the names to make it sound like they're getting progressive money And then people are able to find out that it's a pack money So it's like that's what's happening in michigan right now because I don't know if you watch any of that race Because what little i've seen of it is that people just seem to be clowning that woman Yes with your fake accent talking about Kennedy down louisiana with putting on the fake accent to like Make make themselves more likable among the constituents evidently this woman I'm not i'm not familiar enough with with the state of michigan to know whether their natural accent is but everybody every time this woman Speaks on camera all I see are actual michiganers that they're called michiganers. Yeah, michiganers all of them saying like yeah, nobody talks like that Like hers that's in a completely fake accent. She's doing to sound haley stevens. Okay.

She's currently seated. She's the incumbent Oh, okay, so they can her voting records, you know, she voted for setting more arms to israel Like she had no problem doing that burning anymore. I need more I guess we're merging our armies together now too. Yeah, because you know which nation are we Who are you?

Are you citizen of exactly? So we'll see what happens. Yeah, yeah, okay. Well on a Sorry, on a positive note.

So it's my understanding you saw the odyssey. I did twice Because how was it? Uh, it was long. I will start there, but it was it didn't feel long which is a positive You know, that's the that's always the key is I don't mind length of a movie as long as it does Because no one moves are all long held the dark night movies were long.

Yeah, but they didn't feel long Uh, you do not need to see it in the 70 millimeter iMacs experience I do not know because I was like those were all sold out We do actually have a 70 millimeter iMacs down the street I it was sold out like when I had a moment because I took my s my knees Ava to that initially And I was like, well, I want to see in 70 I'm like I want to see it that way because it was made to be seen that way and then we did because they were so just like I was like, well, we're going to the standard viewing and I was like both of them were like Um, Ava had never really seen Nolan outside of Batman and Esther was kind of like had seen some things But didn't I don't think she saw him in theater because there is a loudness to an old film that you cannot really prepare anyone for Unless you've seen a Nolan movie and it was traumatic for the two of them. They're like, what was that? I was like that is just Nolan He's extremely loud like that's just a style Yeah, yeah, you know, but it's just I mean obviously it's not because they can do adjustments to it But in my head what I want to think is because uh, I think we talked about this last week But it was after we finished recording where we're talking about so the iMacs cameras are famously extremely like so to shoot on iMacs specifically like they're The specific iMacs cameras are famously loud to the point where actors are very get distracted because it's just a loud noise They're not used to so I'm in my head. I'm just picturing them all talking louder So they can hear their own they can hear themselves talk And so everything in the movies left.

I don't know if that's obviously not true because they can adjust sound But I just want to believe that I will let you believe that but otherwise the story was well paced He does Nolan style things where he goes forward and backwards in time and like jumps around a lot Which I like is I like that kind of storytelling and I mean if you read the odyssey, yeah, which I that's how it is It's not like a linear story. No, but people I think people are hoping that obviously the most recent translator of the odyssey was not a fan of the script And was very upset with Nolan's And I go some university issue out of but she didn't op op out about the disappointment she had in the Right because she her translation is the inspiration was his source material. It was like specifically her translation So that I so her criticisms valid. I don't know if it's I don't know is the average film film girl if you care But I understand but you know, I can understand her critique if it was based on her work and she wasn't happy with it I can understand that but at the same time it's a movie like you have to take certain liberties to make it entertaining And that's okay, like and he did a good job of taking said liberties he didn't He didn't go crazy with anything.

It was just it was well done. It was well, it was So so as far as I understand it was three and a half hours just Elliott page and Oopita no longer right. Yes. I'm under the impression that they're the only two people in the movie and they got all the screen Is that not is that not true?

It is very true like Elliott page did a great performance. I will say that she he was fantastic For the little amount of time that he's actually yeah, I was gonna say them both of them Right, right? Even Helen of Troy. That was Iliad not Odyssey.

Yeah, so isn't it so Shocking that they would make such a big deal out of and frankly I should have I should have asked you this when you mentioned a few minutes ago Did you actually poke your head in the iMac theater because it's my understanding that all the local libtars were buying the tickets but not seeing them I did not but the numbers so that theater should have been empty. It should have been I don't think it was because every single one of them was you know, their whole this is gonna bomb worse than anything That's not the case because well, then I just think it moving the gold they always do like oh, well it'll make two billion dollars I'm like yeah, that's that's how that's gonna work because Ilan especially is although he's moved he has daily meltdowns But like he was going on his his meltdowns about the Odyssey for a long time and now he's moved on to specifically melting down about Anne Hathaway I saw this today that he's been just tweeting on stop specifically about a speech she gave in 2018 about trans rights And he's lost his mind over an eight-year-old speech about trans rights because he just he just can't get over the fact that his His daughter is trans that's that's for some reason that that has just Consumed his life. That's a pharma in his own Kind of thing it's like he's gonna have a gay or Gay children here and there as well on top of things because you know, that's just the odds Yeah, he's god, man I it's hard to believe there was a time and I admit I was part of the group where I thought he was pretty fucking cool Yeah, there was a time there where it's like oh my god Is he a real Tony Stark and then and then then they're in the pandemic and when he bought X that's where it was like Yeah, well, he started to he started where they fall off before that. We're like oh, this needs an asshole But there was a time there where it was like Everybody was like this dude's really pretty cool man.

He's inventing all these cool things He didn't invent shit. Yeah, he just threw his name on things and paid for them Like I still remember and I've mentioned this before but like seeing him in person at the the opening night of Force Awakens at the century city mall We were all in line to get in the theater for the opening night of you know the first new star wars movie in what 30 years? No, not 30 years the prequels but it was it was like 15 years between revenge of the Sith and Force Awakens, I think pretty it was a long time. It was at least 10 years.

Yeah, at least 10 years Um, I think it was closer like 13 or 14. Anyway, it was the first new one in a while So we were super excited. I saw it then you know opening night the night before so came out on Friday So it was me and the nerds a lot of costumes Elon walked past with like security He's a big dude like tall he's a big dude Uh and like the people they do like the all the star wars nerds in line with me. We're losing their shit now to be fair They might still be on the you know, Elon has his most of his his diehards are bots on on the old uh everything app x But he does he still has some fanboys out there Oh, I don't know what the overlap is where how many of them are still but I will admit at that time In hell he even had a cameo on um on big bang theory Which which I saw recently it aired that episode and it it's just cringe how much cringy how much how he was he played himself on the episode Of course, because he was treated on the like the way the characters fawned over him because that was back when he was still like somebody to be fawned over Right, um But yeah, uh let's go.

I mean to Glad you liked it so way between the two of us we're gonna average to each of seen at once right and both of us should go see The movie that came comes out this weekend. I mean spider-man. Yeah, I'm here for I'm here for spider-man I might go see that today actually Oh god, it's thursday shit. Yep We have I have not read it in any early reviews is there any is it positive?

Um, I haven't read any reviews either, but I would assume that it's not getting bad reviews right now. Um, if you like, did you hear? Well, I mean Is wait is this MCU or is they are they are they still sony property? Uh, I never I'm always confused about the crossover What it is is it's still a sony sony sony's little is the rights to Two spider-man, but it is a collaboration between the two and it's the only way sony makes money right now So right and spider-man is a 91 and a 98 So well, you mean they're there.

I mean sony's still making money off amorbius and uh and All the all the like ancillary character madam web and uh, what was the hunter craven? That was not also sony. Yeah, that was a boy. They own all those they own all those like shitty Aren't they calling it like the spider-man extended universe or something stupid like that?

It's something along those lines where they own everything that's spider-man So every movie they're making are the villains of spider-man So And they don't care how it does they're like they need to make a movie every however many years to keep the rights to spider-man So they're like, oh, we'll just make another one and it's the same writers They don't know how to write this stuff because it's not good Uh venom was you know the one was fun. I don't want to go. Okay. Yeah, they got progressively worse Venom the last venom was like what was that like it made I stopped it first one Uh, I watched the other two they just popped up on the disney plus I didn't pay for them Why did I technically I paid for them, but I was like I didn't go to theaters to see them Wait, where are you ever seen Morbius?

I did see Morbius. I have not seen that Speaking you want to get on a let's go pressing like if you've even fallen the Jared the latest year He's been in key well. He's been accused now of uh, well, he's I mean, he's he's faced multiple sexual assault charges Over the years never actually been charged for it But he's kind of that Russell brand thing where eventually he's you know He's gonna get charged because you know, I believe all of these women There's too many And he's been alleged like Jared let's been a creep forever Like because he because not only was it the actor thing but the also the rock star thing So I'm guessing more of his his These women accusing him were more related to the music part than acting But yeah, no, they're just allegations because the BBC did a documentary on him Basically like the fall of Jared leto that's come that I guess is fairly recent because a lot of these new accusations But the four most recent ones that I've been reading about this week were um all teenagers one was 19 still teenager I get but technically legal uh, but yeah, like he sexually assaulted an 18 year old He had consensual sex with a 17 year old but he basically she was like, you know, I'm not legal right? He's like you're close enough, but it was so it's illegal.

It's illegal. It's such an accessory, right? Because some of the South mornin is not 16 here. I don't know That's the truth.

It's a 16. Missouri. I believe it's 16 So it's like uh, but that that's when really when your life starts to question somebody when they're like, hey, but it's legal It's like, yeah, okay, it's not right in any sense Uh, but yeah, but yeah, like but so so even the fact that the 17 year old was consensual is still illegal But the other one 18 year old was flat out sexual assault Um, then he he threatened to sexually assault a 19 year old and then there was another A woman who's basically said he groomed her from the age of 16 on And it's just one of them and you know, like no charges have been brought against them But it's one of those things like where you just heard stories about like Russell brand for years And you're like eventually something's gonna happen and now something's finally happening Um, but uh, yeah couldn't have it to a worse person. Jared leto by all accounts piece of shit.

He's always been a piece of shit Well, which is funny because uh What is a film of his that it was a good crash and burn in the box? I thought it was all of them Well, but you know how he's had a track record now like whatever he's in is goes to shit Right, um, this is the criticism. God watch it masters of the universe It's on probably by the way. I was it it's fun.

It's entertaining People that saw in the theater were like what we don't under the the people that I and I don't know the person I was this is more like reddit on nine folks the people who saw it were like even said we don't understand why this bond It was actually good The marketing was not great because I recall at the time even though I'd seen the commercials in the trailers for a while I didn't realize it had already come out right so like the marketing was not great Maybe it came out on a but I'm sure it came out around the same time as something bigger Uh because this time of year tends to you know every week is new blockbuster Because what else also came out this week. I've actually caught up on some movies The double-wears product too also came out on Disney or Hulu or the same thing. I've not seen the first one. Oh shocked actually Honestly, I'm also shocked.

I did not see that when you said that just there. I'm like wait, what how because I'm like Hey, right up your alley right up my alley. I honestly think you should marathon it Today get some time just be like What's which streamer uh Disney or Hulu? You have it.

Yeah, you have no excuse so that is true. That is true Okay, because I'm like because I woke up early the other day and I was like oh that's on and I watched I was like 5 30 and I was like oh just watch this double-wears product which was uh a decision I had to shamefully tell my wife that I watched it without her because I didn't want the shame of watching it with her and enjoying it So toxic masculine it is toxic masculinity at its finest Uh, I ain't nothing nothing against it Although I it's my understanding from the first one that the Adrian grandi character who's just universally low this the character's nastole I believe I believe you're might be correct. I'm not a hundred percent on the day bring him back for the sequel Uh, I mean I probably would like it at this point It's that probably at this point that ship sale, you know, it does start one half of my favorite real life celebrity couple Meryl Streep and Mark Short, even though they have not they've not officially acknowledged that they're dating But they just are always together. So one has one has to assume.

Also, did you see okay since uh, we haven't talked in a week or so We also had the standard comic con the other week and there were some releases of trailers and things like that in upcoming projects One of that being michael b jordan's tom's crown fair I saw that I was like what we're remaking this it's a remake of a remake. Yes, but I'm okay with this remake Well, I will say this is that the I saw the so the first one was steve Mcqueen and Fade Unaway And then the remake fade down away came back for the remake but not the same character the remake was Renee ruso This was like Renee ruso during that she had a run man. Yeah, she was in some some great movies Um her and pierce bras and then Dennis leery. I saw that enjoyed it immensely And then went back to watch the original and I was like, you know what this remake is better Possible this is the case I can't wait.

I can't wait for the diehard tom's crown folks who probably don't care in the slightest that they're gonna make race comments Like oh, you're gonna make him black now. I think he's one of the few Where it's like I don't care. It's like an eagress elbow. It's like I don't care he can act and I'm like I kind of he He can control the screen so I was gonna he's great actor and kenneth brana is in this Okay, Michael be door-directed that might be the problem I mean every actor who's gone on to become a great director.

They had to start somewhere Yeah, but this is a big start though. I mean there was true that is true. I mean, but there i'm sure there was a time He directed creed three, I believe Yeah, you're right. He did okay, so he got his feet with a shitty movie, but not his fault And he does work with really good directors as well.

Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I'm sure Ryan coogler is helpful. Yes, so he's directed three projects Um two upcoming tom's crown fair and creed four and then yeah creed three so we're doing a creed four Well, it's I mean to be fair there were seven Rockies, but Wait, there's seven.

I thought there were six Rockies one through five. You're right. There was six. There's no balla That was six right there was it was I think it was called rocky balla wasn't it?

Oh, yeah, I guess yeah that was the one with um Uh with a real fighter. What was his neck camera? But but his carrot one of the you know one of the best Nicknames like within the rocky universe where he was mason the line dixon. Oh, which is which is just a really stupid nickname But kind of funny it's a good Antonio Antonio tarver was the name of the box the actual boxer who was who's a legit boxer and played the bag i terrible actor but he He was he did it enough.

He was believable in the fight scenes because he was a real fighter I mean tommy morrison from from rocky five which they don't even like they basically removed that from the canon of rocky They basically plot wise rocky ball boa the sixth one acted like five never happened. Yep So, which is always funny to me and that was tommy morrison who played the tommy the machine gun another great nickname Um, but he was a terrible actor, but a real fighter so he you know he wasn't the worst Let's see. It's all longer and just didn't have to do much Well, because at the time we were not familiar with his game so much Like I for a longest time. I don't think people people just probably really thought he was russian Yeah, he said like five words the entire rocky before he didn't have to be a good actor He was just big if he dies he dies.

Yeah, I would break him like I really didn't say much so uh But but then also just the comic con I did see and it brought a just Warmness to my heart was seeing rick marinas again Space the space balls and just the reaction he got and his reaction to the reaction he got was just heartwarming Because like it was cool to see like yeah kevin smith Uh hosted the uh the the q&a, you know the legendary hall h which is where all the big things happen Uh and kevin smith was fanboying like I mean, you know, he's diehard nerd He is I don't think kevin smith's nerd credentials can ever be questioned. He was fanboying hard deservedly So I mean it's like rick marinas. He was beloved He was beloved before he left hollywood and the reasons for him leaving hollywood made him more beloved And he was so missed from being gone. It's been gone for 30 years man.

It's about 30 years 30 years ago. I was just about to i was going through his eye to be just to see I don't know if he was 30 years exact, but it was a decade 2008 Okay, but even then was that just like voice over work or was that um Because he hasn't like starred in like I feel like the last thing that he like starred in starred in was one of the honey I shrunk the movie he didn't voice her brother bear that was like brother bear to and then there was a tv movie dug in bob and dug mckenzie Strange strange. Very good. Yeah, and then there was rush snakes and arrows.

But that's him doing bob and kenzie again Um, so he's just okay. Let's see uh last time acting acting i'm taking me a second because Honey, I shrunk we shook ourselves that was the last week that was 1997 which was the third in the That was it was honey. I shrunk the kid honey I blew up the kid where they made the baby super big and honey we shrunk ourselves And then there was this special one that they made specifically for disney land and disney world like it was a show you honey I shrunk the audience, honey. I shrunk the audience And yeah, and then he you know and the reasons for him disappearing obviously totally valid, but yeah, it's cool to see him I this movie might be absolute shit.

They probably will be because um It's his little part two was horrible like I don't know which I can bring myself to watch it Oh, yeah, well, but at this point like people are sort of like well how much I've seen some people who are on the you know Glasses have full trying to be optimistic being like well, it's melbroox I mean, you know melbroox Melbroox he could still do melbroox and other people like probably didn't have much to do with this to be honest Like jolly this is written and directed by josh gad No, it's uh josh green bomb directed josh gosh green bomb left and gad took over but he was written by josh gad Yeah, and and so people are so you know, but i've heard the argument made and this is a fair argument being like Well, josh Sometimes when you see these passion projects from an actor because they just love that they love the original so much That they want to do right by it. So maybe it is good. It's not gonna be as good as the first But it could still be good, but they got everybody back they got the whole the whole team around Yeah, the one still living So I do appreciate that they that they just flat out said we are not recasting mark. Yeah, no no no You can't so it's just like like anything.

It's just um Your apprehensions are worthy just Uh the style of melbroox doesn't fly these days like the humor that he wants or he always has It's never gone away, but his style of comedy doesn't quite flow or work in this No, and that's the the the the problem was is the whole parody genre, which melbroox didn't well melbroox was I don't know if he technically invented it in the zucker brothers were like At one in one a with the airplane movies and everything Um, but that that got that was Those movies were like all those movies were great well into the scary movie franchise They were still great. Yeah, but it got to the point where just the parodies became parodies of parodies when you started getting shit Like not another teen movie and disaster movie and you know all those terrible ones where they were just parroting different genres And it was like, okay, there was the one that was a serious one That there was a parody of 300 that was I think that was just a movie I believe yeah So like they got there was that movie 43 that was just like parry that was more of a katucky fried Yeah, I think it was which is also zucker the sucker. No the Abrams brothers. Yeah, Abrams brothers It was in that it was not in that way which hasn't been done It's a bunch of short movies and some none of them really hit they were all just kind of like the The weirdness of them.

I appreciate it, but it wasn't very good Um because I think it was it do Mel did one where he was they were like rolling It like their kid who was homeschooled to make him feel like he had the high school experience and his mom's like making out with him Or trying to hit on him, which it was creepy but funny in its own way. So I don't know There's there are some decent ones like scary movie doesn't hold up the way it used to I have not I mean six I don't know if six was successful it was I believe so It's just one of those movies where I'm like, I don't need I I'll see it if it pops up on the streaming I mean the fact that there were six of them. I I only remember the first two So I don't know if I even saw I saw the third one, but even the wanes the wanes fell off after like the first couple Right? They split barlin was doing He did the third one.

I know that much. I don't know about four or five. I think he separated himself from that as well. Okay, so What scary movie he?

But like even you know like even three hundred one That's pretty good. That's pretty good. Oh the thirty million dollar budget. Yeah, that's very pretty good.

Okay So it so it was not fairly it was not critically well received Oh, absolutely not it doesn't matter it doesn't make it much But no to your point about the you know, sometimes the genre the the the trailblazers getting getting passed by, you know Like naked gun, you know, they tried to bring that back and I watched that it was not I leave me some was it he played the straight man very well and it was kind of like it was okay But I'm like I didn't keep my attention If that's a good way of putting it not that like You know because that's a movie that was off a tv show and then you know, there are certain things I would love to see I would love to see a dragnet reboot And have tom hanks play friday I mean, yeah, honestly if dan ackeroid and tom hanks today one decide to just make another one even though at their age You'll be like, yeah, I'll see that watch that to be honest with you. I wish tom hanks would do more comedy I wish we go back to great great comedic actor and unlike like a michael keaton who started in comedy got in a drama But then went back keaton never left comedy whereas tom hanks i can't recall tom hanks is funny in movies But I can't recall the last comedy he made Um some of them like we're like comedic but not like straight up Comedies, you know, that's a good question because i'm like lady killers possibly that did not fair Well, that was cone brothers. Yes, but that was a remake so like it wasn't a cone brothers original Uh, but that was pretty bad. Okay, you know, he had some some like romantic comedy type stuff like I mean Obviously you got mail was a long time ago, but like he did that one with julie roberts where he like went back to college It was pretty good.

It wasn't like it was a more romantic comedy than then just flat out comedy But he's very very crown very crown. Yeah, yeah, and then he had um the terminal which was always yeah, no Um, I don't like i'm looking through it. I'm like, but for the most part He's he's not really going back, but he was such a great comedic actor It's god when did because we talk about like there I heard the stories of like the overlap between michael keaton and tom hanks having the same career and then they Divisioned off into their own thing. Well, that was that was part of the reason why people were baffled by him being cast as batman in 89 Because people are like the comedian michael keaton And then michael keaton proved that he could do drama just as well as a new comedy tom hanks is the same But michael keaton never fully left like god every time a clip pops up on like tick tick tock of the other guys With a little ferrell and mark wabber and michael keaton steals that movie where he plays their ball He plays their like lutev and their captain and he also has a side job at that bathebion And like the entire movie he's got there running bit recoil.

He's a fantastic um he steals a movie like so he still does comment I feel like tom hanks still has that and i'm if he wanted to but maybe he just doesn't want to possibly And then on that side, fine. No, we're gonna get out of here. So you never open the hour marker that actually went viral Well, we'll do a little patro live
