Episode 37: Being a Clinical Director - and what you need to do before and during Comm Serve - with Dr Jay Punwasi

from The Dr Coffee Podcast · host Dr. Simon Fraser

In this week's Coffee with Consultants feature, I sat down with Dr Jay Punwasi, about the role of a clinical manager at a hospital entails, and also to talk about the important steps junior doctors need to chart a course for the the early phase of their career and how to choose a site for their Community Service year. Dr Jay Punwasi is a medical doctor and healthcare manager. She is currently the Clinical Director at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital. Her purpose in her career is to advance patient services by engaging her clinical and MBA training and experience in all aspects of healthcare.  As a trained business and life coach, Dr Puwnasi has a special interest in developing young healthcare practitioners through coaching and mentoring so the next generation of doctors and allied practitioners is better equipped to run the marathon of a career in healthcare. Dr Punwasi has won multiple service excellence awards in her career including the South African Medical Association Young Leader in Healthcare award. She is a mother of two girls aged 12 and 9, the wife of a university professor and a community activist involved in organisations that promote education and learning, reading amongst young children, and social and community improvement. I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation and I’m sure you will as well.
